Answered: Cost for interactive license for original Genesis figure

I can find costs of interactive licenses for morph packs, clothing, textures, etc., but what is the cost to use the Genesis model itself? If I buy a license for, say, the Troll for Genesis character for $50, does that include use of Genesis itself or does that require a second license?

It's easy for, say, Aiko 3, where I can purchase a bundle that includes the character, but are there costs for using base characters in addition to character morphs?

  • You need the Interactive License for the base figure as well as any morphs or characters used. That is avaialble through the Starter Essentials page, https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-starter-essentials

Perfect, thanks very much; despite doing my best searching and finding every other Genesis base pack, for some reason that one eluded me.

  • Finding "Genesis" without a number using the store search can be a challenge - for this i searched for Starter Essentials instead.

Thanks again; for some reason I just didn't think of an "Essentals" pack, I just remember buying almost everything as it came out individually.

  • Moved to Art Studio since it is a non-technical product topic, rather than Daz Studio application.

I have a related query. As I understand it, 3D printing licences were given automatically to all items purchased prior to a fairly recent date (September 2022? something like that). I have Jim Burton's 'Glamorous Vicki 3', first purchased in December 2004. No printing licence is currently shown for GV3. I did purchase GV3 again as part of a bundle, as that was the only way to get hold of 'Ingenue Vicki 3'. That was September 2023. Could the re-purchase of GV3 in this bundle have over-ridden the printing licence? If yes, I'm not wildly happy, and would like to get it rectified, any suggestions as to how it would be done? Regards, Richard

From memory 3D printing license was given for all Daz originals you owned at the time, not all products (which is coherent with what I see in my product library). Glamorous Vicky is a PA product.

  • Ahh, that probably explains it. Thanks. You know how you forget these things. I'm highly unlikely to 3d print the figure, let alone want to sell the printed characters, but.. one never knows. Regards, Richard.

I may be mistaken, but I think you don't need the 3D printing licence to print for your own personal use, only for selling what you're printing.

Yes,  standard license covers 3d printing for personal, non-commercia use.

  • I was aware of the free personal usage, which is why I mentioned "I'm highly unlikely to 3d print the figure, let alone want to sell the printed characters,..."

In a follow-up question, I've made a purchase today (2025-February-24) of more than a dollar to qualify for a "gold star"; how do I know if I *have* a gold star, and how can I get the discount to show up for an interactive license. They keep showing up in my cart at 100%, no discounts.

I've added a Newly Mad item to the cart and all interactive licenses *still* show in the cart at 100%. Was I supposed to also stand on one foot, and if so, left or right? Hop? Sing?

I haven't been playing the "how do I buy something here and get the discount" game that much while I wait for DAZ Next to arrive, but I sure haven't missed this game.

Easiest (and only way currently AFAIK): add a new release to your cart and look at the discount.

    • If it's 30% without token, you don't have a gold star active.
    • If it's over 50%, you have a gold star active.

Edit : I just tested it, and I do have a 20% discount on a licence for a product I already own. I purchased something yesterday, so I do have a gold start active.

If licences are without discount in your cart, it seems very likely that gold star is activated for two days after doing a purchase, but not the day you did a purchase.

Thanks, you're probably correct; the item I purchased today won't help until the interactive licenses are no longer on sale, so, more money saved for me! Luckily I don't *need* the licenses right now, I was preparing for the future.

And, with my trusty Gold Star active, a fresh, new Mad item from today's sale in my cart, my discount on the license of an item from the legacy sale button that I already own is... nothing. Oh, okay, I'll even add the item I already own and buy it again to get a license discount of... nothing. No license discounts for me.

Another fun fact: for a bundle that I don't own but that I do own every item in it? I can't even add the interactive license at all,not without buying hte bundle.

I forgot the cardinel rule of gambling in these games... the House always win.

Taking my chips and going home.

  • There was an issue with licenses that was fixed, I belive - is thiss till not working?

Possibly for everyone but me, maybe?

I've updated my cart and added an item I already own and its interactive license that still logs in at 100%. The cart also contains an item from today's new items that shows I'm getting the appropriate discount for having a "Gold Star".

Thanks for your help, Richard, but seriously, I can't remember a single big sale that DAZ has held in decades where something didn't go awry. I was just hoping to save a little money by purchasing something that I don't really need right now, but thanks to the way the store works it looks like I'll be saving more than I'd planned.

At some point in the afternoon the discount started working.

Thanks again, Richard, for your help and, more importantly, for your almost infinite patience.

Thanks again for your help with this, I was able to spend a total of $7.50 to get two interactive licenses (Genesis and Genesis 2), a huge savings over the normal $50 each.
