Reinstalling DAZ Studio because of corruption

hjakehjake Posts: 993

Yesterday, in this thread ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/584691/released-environment-set-splitter-commercial#latest ) I mentioned the product was crashing when I tried to excute it. Luckily, I have a secondary computer which I use for rendering without slowing my workflow on my main computer. The product ran flawlessy and so I determined the problem is related to my DAZ Studio installation.

I tried uniinstalling a plug-in that was mentioned in the on-screen crash report, but not related to the product at issue. Next, I re-imported the content library metadata. After that I uninstalled DAZ Studio with DIM and removed the download package, which tripped a DIM script infroming me to install DAZ Studio. I allowed the script to run.

Once DAZ Studio was reinstalled I ran the product again and everything crashed just like before.

So now with the background explained, my question is how do I properly uninstall and reinstall DAZ Studio so there is a fresh (uncorrupted) copy.

Do I need to unistall all of my 16,424 packages installed with DIM?

or instead do I need to unistall all the DAZ Studio plugins? If so, what do I filter just uninstall all the plugins?

I could attach the crash report file, but it is just 4259 lines of messages like this:

2025-02-26T17:24:15Z Error in metadata for product 'D-Force Crop Jacket for Genesis 8 Females' (104602), metadata for file '/people/genesis 8 female/clothing/a97/crop jacket/materials/jacket08.duf' has no corresponding file

I have not used or loaded that product in many months.

The XML file in the error reporting zip file just lists modules installed.

I have attached a screenshot of my installed plugins

Are you using the HEAT plugin?

It has caused a lot of crashes.

I looked for HEAT in my DIM but could not find anything. I unchecked the plugin in DS, and restarted DS. Run the environment spliteer script and DS crashed.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

Interesting. I did not install HEAT and it is not in DIM, but there was a DLL in the plugin folder. I renamed its extension .dll.old so it would not load. I did the same for Typi3D since it was the .dll mentioned in the crash report dialog. So now the split envioment script runs but only processes the first item.

I think the only way I am going to fix this is uninstall and clean install, so my original questions stand.

I am open to any suggestions. Preferably without having to re-install all my DIM packages.

With the excemption of plugins, I cannot see that your content needs reinstalling. Just point Daz Studio to your current libraries.

The reason I excempt plugins, is that some of them gets installed in "weird" places.

You will probably have to reimport metadata.

Well I finally scrubbed DAZ Studio from all the folders and managed to uninstall anything that ressembled a plugin in DIM. Reinstalled DS then the default items and ran environment splitter and it now works properly.

ah-ha I wrote too soon. I installed the other "plugins" and crashed again! I will have to look into this tomorrow.

Well today I unistalled these products through DIM and Environment Splitter is working again, so now I will have add them one at a time until I discover the culprit.

Typi3D: fonts to 3D - Windows version ( https://www.daz3d.com/typi3d-fonts-to-3d--windows-version ) was causing crashing with Environment Spliteer, and when I uninstalled it the crashes stopped but Environment Splitter ( https://www.daz3d.com/environment-set-splitter ) threw up an error that the content for the product I chose to split was not in my content folder which of course it was.

Well it seems HEAT.dll was not causing an issue and it is in my DIM product library however I did not see it before. Oh well, uninstalled it anyways since I don't use it.

Last update for today. Installed Typi3D: fonts to 3D - Windows version ( https://www.daz3d.com/typi3d-fonts-to-3d--windows-version ) and the spliteer worked. So the DAZ crash reporter was reporting it as the crash culprit but it was an innocent bystander.

More testing tomorrow of the 79 other suspects.
