How To Get Product Thumbnails To Show For Character Folders

3DSaga3DSaga Posts: 490

I might not even be asking this accurately, but here's my question: I download my purchases through DIM and I use Content Library to access my assets. What I've noticed is that sometimes (quite often for some PAs) the product shows in Content Library as a folder icon with the name of the product, but no thumbnail.  My specific question here is that I really like Mousso characters. Almost half of them only show the folder icon, but the associated thumbnails are all under the "Mousso" PA folder, but not with the individual character folder. How do I put these thumbnails with the applicable character folder?

Using Mousso last character as an example, as per the readme, her parameters are in "/People/Genesis 9/Characters/Mousso/Sade/", to get an icon, just place one icon named Sade.png in "/People/Genesis 9/Characters/Mousso/"

Usually, when I'm doing it, I'm duplicating the character preset icon (the one located in "/People/Genesis 9/Characters/" so in the case of Sade, copy "Sade HD for G9 Feminine.duf.png" then move and rename that copy as "/People/Genesis 9/Characters/Mousso/Sade.png"

I don't know if they are strict rules, but usually a 91x91 png file is enough (it's the same size as the other icon).

Maybe this screenshot might help explain what I'm tryig to do. In the Content Library you can see Mousso's characters. Some have thumbnails, others just show a folder icon. In the main pane under "My DAZ  3D Library>People>Genesis 8 Female>Characters>Mousso"  you can see a number of PNGs for most of the folders that are missing thumbnails. How do I get those thumbnails to the corresponding character folders?

Be sure to right click on the main library folder in the daz studio library browser thing, and hit refresh after you add the PNG for them to show up.

Your screenshot is very pixelated, but if some of the files are named "folder.duf.png", it's won't work. It's need to be "folder.png" where "folder" is the exact spelling of the folder's name you want to put an icon on.

Then refresh, because Content Library is only updated after hitting refresh and in your case, right click on the 'Mousso' folder and click on Refresh should do the trick.

Sorry about the pixelated image, Elor- I replaced it with a larger image that hopefully will allow you to see more details.

After looking at the list of PNGs and TIPs in the Mousso folder, I've found that all of them are the ones that actually have thumbnails. The sole exception is Beatriche. That one has a .DUF PNG,  and a .TIP PNG. I don't know if you can make it out in the screenshot, but there are a number of Mousso characters that don't have thumbnails and none are provided. I thought there's a DAZ requirement that there are thumbnails for each character.

The "folder.duf.png" type files are the images used when you hover over a file and the bigger image pops up and can give more info on it.

    Using Angel as an example.

In Daz Studio, right click on '/People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/' and select 'Browse to folder location'. It should open an File Explorer window with the correct folder open.

    In File Explorer:

    1. Copy '[name of your drive]/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/Angel.duf.png'

    2. Paste it in '[name of your drive]/My DAZ 3D Library/People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/Mousso' and rename it 'Angel.png'

In Daz Studio, right click on '/People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/Mousso' and select 'Refresh: you should now see an icon on the Angel folder.

Regarding refreshing your Content Library, when you ask it to refresh a folder, it'll refresh everything inside that folder, including its child folders, so if you made some change all over your Content Library, just right click on your Content Library itself and click Refresh: it'll refresh every directory added to your Content Library.

If it worked and if you're now seeing an icon on Angel's folder, you just have to do the same with every folder without an icon (I don't know if tools exists to automate the whole process).

On possible exception, Beatriche, because there is also her .duf file in the same folder: you can either rename "Beatriche.duf.png" to "Beatriche.png" if you're not using Smart Content (you'll now have an icon on the .duf file and the folder), otherwise, it's best to copy "Beatriche.duf.png" and to rename that copy "Beatriche.png" (I'm not completly sure Smart Content will be lost if Beatriche.duf.png is renamed Beatriche.png but it's better to erre on the side of caution).

Yes, Beatriche is a special case because her .duf file is in the Mousso folder but with the original image, I didn't understood that there was a .duf file here :)
