Where are my poses, wardrobe, figures, materials, hair, etc in Smart Content in DS 4.9?

I'm using DS 4.9 and I'm having such a hard time with it. Why is it when I have V6 selected and Filter by Context checked off, everything shows up in Smart Content all jumbled together? All I have on the left is "ALL" Where are the cetegories poses, materials, figures, hair, etc? These options are all gone for me.

Am I missing something?

    Switch from Products to Files

  • Do anyone know where the default renders go? In 4.9

Are you saving to a folder or to a render library?

  • It doesn't matter what view I am in order what is selected, or if "Filter by Context" is checked off or not. The only option I ever see is "All".

What do you see in the Content Library pane under "Categories"?

  • Kevin RyeKevin Rye Posts: 392

There's pretty much nothing uner Categories except Millenium Cat. I just updated to 4.9.1.30 and same results. I have 1000s of items in my library and all I can see in Smart Content is "All". It's been about a month. This is really frustrating. Everything was fine until I updated to 4.9.

Well, having no categories explains why you aren't seeing anything except All in Smart Content, but if you logged into Connect it should have the category data.

Content DB Maintenance -> Reimport metadata normally would solve the problem.

  • Kevin RyeKevin Rye Posts: 392

I've reimported metadata several times and still nothing. Updating to 4.9 broke something.

It's very strange that you have the files showing but no categories.  Close Daz Studio, then go to your Connect library > Data > Cloud and delete the "Meta" folder.  Then start DS, log in to Connect, and let it sit while it redownloads all the metadata (it takes about 10 minutes for me, the status bar will show the progress).  See if that fixes it.

Have you installed the new version with DIM? Then maybe this could be the reason for your problems and has damaged the CMS. I  never would use DIM for installing the software, plugins or the CMS.

You could try to uninstall PostgreSQL, then also delete the folder with the database for the CMS. I don't know if uninstall will offer you deleting of the cluster directory. If not, you will find the cluster directory normally in the DAZ Studio preferences (F2) -> CMS Settings. Delete this folder after uninstalling PostgreSQL.

Then go to your product library, download the standalone installer for PostgreSQL and make a clean new install. Make sure that the new cluster directory is set correctly in DAZ preferences. Then you can make a re-import of the metadata.

If it then still not works, something is really wrong with your setup. Then you should also try a complete uninstall and reinstall DAZ Studio with the standalone installer from your product library in your online account. This should then fix the problems. After setting up your existing content folders in the DAZ Studio preferences, reset the Content DB again and do a re-import of the metadata. Normally then it should work.

Otherwise I have no idea what's wrong. I don't use Studio 4.9 and I will not upgrade before really all bugs are fixed. With Studio 4.8 I have no problems with the Content DB or Smart Content, and I also don't use DIM, all my content is installed manually.

It's very unlikely that installing with DIM is the issue - for a long time there was no stand-alone installer for PostgreSQL and that didn't cause issues.

Well, Richard, it's only a assumption. Something must be wrong and got broken, otherwise a simple re-import of the metadata would also re-create all the missing categories. But of course only if PostgreSQL works properly. And I assume that this is not the case.

I had exactly the same characteristics as Kevin Rye. I was hoping DS 4.9.1 would improve this problem but looks like it doesn't. Can someone write a guide on what DS 4.9 needs to import the categories. I tried the metadata import too but made no difference. I'm using Postgre SQL cms on my e:\drive not c:\users\name. The import is meant to occur on first Daz 4.9 load so not sure that export and import of metadata has anything to do with it. Less than a year ago I spent 3 months fixing my supposedly corrupt Valentina to Postgre SQL. Now Daz has moved the goal posts again. If Daz cant solve this problem then maybe a standalone category importer would work better. Some utilities like Zone Smoother for G3 don't work with DS 4.8 (despite claims of the author) so I'd like to try DS 4.9 to see if I need to claim my money back or not. These days I'm spending days trying to get DS software to work and if you are honest you will recognise that your customers dont even want the change.

I think I might have fixed it. I went to Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database. All my categories, as well as all my content reappeared, but it looked like I'd have to re-download everything. I then reimported metadata again and now it's looking good.

I thought reset database would zero the database and you would lose everything. I'll give that a try thanks. No harm done as reserve PC.

Yes, it does zero the database, and no, you don't "lose everything". Remember that the database doesn't contain your installed content files, it contains links to your installed content files. These links are built using data included in each DAZ installer, so when you "reimport metadata", all these bits of data are read back in and used to rebuild the database. The actual content files are never touched in this process, so they never need to be redownloaded.

Yes,, you may not lose everyting,,

But,,, The important things is,, you need to export user_data, untill reset DB. and I afraid, if it already corrupted in ds 4.9,

THen I really hope ,,  export user_data.dsx  untill try to up-date ds 4.9.   then check where it located.

because Actually not a few user already get some trouble.  and the more user up-date ds 4.9,, there shoull be new some user

who can not get-buck their category, or can not access Postgre sql (I do not know,, why it happen,, but actually we already see

some topics about this problem even though after  DAZ version up, ds 4.9 )

some user may try export user_data, in ds 4.9, after they find problem,, then try reset DB,, but the  user_data.dsx simply not record any user category I think.. (if it was already corrupted, or not migrated in ds 4.9 DB record)

it just export cuurent DB record which user modified as User_data.

About product,  (which daz offered with meta-data)

you can get-buck all product meta-data, by DAZ connect, or from your runtime/support.

Did some further experiments. 1) Reset data base in 4.9. This not only wiped out self made content library (not actual directory files agreed) in 4.9 but also on 4.8. 2) Copied across the content mager CMS file 3) Exported metadata in 4.8 4) Imported metadata in 4.9. The 4 files had 560,000 files being processed but after processing still no content library. 5) Uninstalled 4.9.0 6) Installed 4.9.1. Another import of metadata. This time 590,000 files being processed. Still no content library.

Question. When you export and import metadata its clearly doing something but content library does not appear to be amongst the data. Where does the content library structure go? Postgre SQL can see it. 4.9 cant. Can we have some more information on how 4.9 picks up the 4.8 content library. Without the content library it makes 4.9 unusable. Nobody would discard their content library which has evolved over the last 8 years with hundreds of thousands of files. Managed the change over grom 2.3 to 4.8 ok but this is beyond me.

I'll try opening a support ticket with this.

Err, wasn't Connect supposed to fix these sorts of problems? cheeky

    Or am I remembering incorrectly?

What do you mean by "no content library"? I am not clear on what youa re seeing and trying to fix.
