Locating Content not installed via Daz Connect.

Can anyone help me with this? If I install something via either Daz Connect or DIM, then open the Content Library > Tab Menu > Scan known directories. It goes through the progress bar up to 100% but then none of the folders get highlighted. Sure enough, I can search through them and the items are in fact there, not broken or orphaned, with a "NEW" border around them, but again the folders they are sitting in are not highlighted. Everything in that last column From "aniBlocks" - "Scene Builder" should have a blue highlight because they all have "NEW" items in them.

In 4.9 new items are tagged with Group::New. While I miss the blue highlights, I have to admit they were kind of buggy.
So how does that work, when I am categorizing content that is NOT from Daz? Do I type Group::New somewhere.. or is it a command...?
If you type Group::New in the Smart Content search bar it will only show the new items.
It is not working for me. According to the auto-updating views of the Smart Content pane, NOTHING is installed.
I want the blue bars back too.... so much easier and I never use smart content unless I have to. And it never shows the freebies or stuff from other sites only stuff from Daz in my experience.
Exactly! I just might have to uninstall 4.9 and revert to an earlier version.. but if I do that then I wont be able to use any of my freebies that are Daz Connect only.
BTW Group::New still isn't working for me.
Put in a Feature Request - that was what I was told by Daz_Spooky. The more people that do the more likely we will get it back.
Good idea, though it does not help me at the moment. Thanks for the tip.
The tagging should be automatic with items isntalled via Connect, so if you aren't seeing it in the file views please report it as a bug.
And besides trudging through hundreds of file folders; how do you locate new files that have NOT been installed via Daz Connect?
The easiest way for me is the Content Library -> Products -> alphanumeric list although that doesn't work for some 'Content Manager' and other installed products like those old aniMate collections. For those you need to actually know where they are installed in the subfolder of the filesystem.
DAZ Connect places my products in Categories, did you look in there
I prefer looking in 'My Library', less scrolling looking for my products, through if you use smart content, it works out great, and I don't use smart content, so not so great
I know I can use "dim::0" or "dim::false" in the product library to see which items are not installable via DIM, but what about Daz Connect? Is there a way to filter items that are NOT DC installable? I only ask because according to the smart content tab, set to No Context, All / All.. I am effectiviely missing close to 1,000 items when compared to the DIM, and no I am not including DSON or poser only files either.
Look, I do not care about the DRM implications, I only have one computer, I dont do shared drives of my own, nor do I use test drives. I don't use or have any intention of using anything other than Daz Studio in the near future. If Daz ever goes out of business and I can't access my content, then oh well, I will find a new medium and start over. Part of the challenge with being an artist in the first place is becoming complacent, because it stifles creativity. So Daz Connect seems like a no-brainer for me. At this point I am all for it. BUT Daz is not the only place I get content from, so what am I to do then? What EXACTLY do they expect us to do? HOW are we expected to modify our workflow exactly? All they ever do is send us to that stupid FAQ which tells you WHAT to do, but not HOW to do it!!! It's the difference between telling someone to "cook something" or "make a wellington" and handing them a recipe. Hey DAZ, you get it yet? We need answers, we need instructions!
Yes, I see that it was doing that, but with the hundreds of categories that are already built into the CMS, how are we supposed to know what categories hold what files? There is no indication that "Hey there are new files in this category you haven't seen yet." Ya know?
Alright so all animosity aside (really trying to hold back here) I know I can use "dim:false" in my product library to find all products that can not be installed via the DIM, but is there a similar way to locate the products in my product library that can not be installed via Daz Connect, in my product library because according to my calculations, I am missing close to 1000 products on the Smart Content tab, with Context turned off and set to All/ All. Please and thank you.
Well the only way to veify is to methodically go through the list of your products and match them with your receipts.
No offense to you nonesuch, but I would really appreciate a response from an admin or tech support person. Eventhough DAZ has a history of lacking definitive answers, I do appreciate the effort.
I don't know if the option is being added to Product Library, but it is being added to DIM according to the change log.
Okay, well that is something. Thank you for that, much appreciated. At the same time it lays to rest any fears I had of being pigeon-holed into using Daz Connect only since you do have a todo list for the DIM.
Forgive me, I tend to be a very cynical person and even when I try to control it, I don't do a very good job either, so apologies for the previous bouts of sarcasm.
My main concern is that I love my 4th Generation content. Simply put. One massive hurdle for me is that regardless of all the morphs that are available for the multiple generations of Genesis, Xameva's Perfect Victoria 4 Complete sculpt set, is still second to none. Not to mention the thousands of products I have purchased not just from DAZ, but Runtime DNA (yes I am aware of the merger and again, am looking forward to it), Renderosity, Renderotica, MostDigitalCreations (on of my favorites), YUR Digital (owned by a friend), Optitex (dynamic cloth), InLite Studios (sparse catalog, but love the quality of the products), and so on.. I can understand not wanting to provide for 4th Gen from here on; we all need to move on and even though I myself have fallen prey to my own "complacency stifles creativity" mentality, DAZ started the interest in it so it should continue to be supported. At this point and for a while since I could remember, it honestly feels like DAZ doesn't even want to support it anymore. If that is the case then fine, it is your company you do what you want with it. We vote with our wallets so it is up to us to decide what to do next, but please just say it. Own up to it and stop letting us play this guessing game of "what if", that is teh most frustrating thing about DAZ is that when they say one thing, you don't actually know what to expect, and normally that would not be a problem for any other company but WE are a community based on your product. It would absolutely not be what it was if not for us. DAZ may have created it, but WE made it what it is. At the same time, if that is NOT the case then DAZ hasn't done a very good job of putting out those types of fires in the past. I mean there is a REASON why so many of us feel this is the case in the first place, ya know?
Now, if I am wrong about all of this (a very real possability) then what in 4.9 allows us to continue to install, locate, organize and use older or non-daz content? Because if I am wrong and really just blowing it all out of proportion then tehre has to be something I am missing. Much like the 1200 products of mine that do not show up in the Smart Library pane as an option for installing, but do in the DIM.
4.9 still uses the old folder structure for things not installed with Connect, like stuff from other stores and stuff installed with DIM. Currently you can't install the 4th generation stuff with Connect for purely technical reasons, but that's something they're working on. So anything that's a morph set for the 4th generation figures is not currently in Connect. Once they finish and release the updated DIM you'll be able to filter by whether it's available in Connect or not, so it'll be easier to tell what's not available.
The Smart Content pane should show all your products, however, even though some of them can't be installed with Connect. Is it not showing them at all, or showing them grayed out?
No, it is not showing them at all, but again I am noticing it with 4th Gen products, so that may be why. I haven't really noticed it with genesis-related or Nex Gen (for lack of a better term) Daz products, because I haven't really been testing it out with anything other than 4th Gen products. Just off the top of my head, as basic as it can be... Victoria 4.2 base. Does not show up in the Smart Content pane for any tab.The 4.2 Bodysuit and wet maps and stuff all do but not the base. Now if I install it via the DIM, it shows up with a thumbnail and meta data and in the DIM it even gets a lil check mark for meta data.
Hmm, it shows up for me in Smart Content > Products under Default > Figures > People, in color (since it was installed with DIM), but without the Connect symbol in the upper right corner. Is it currently installed using DIM?
No no no, you misunderstand, I am talking about products missing before I install them. Yes they show up when I use the DIM. But I am saying if I was to use only the Daz Connect, one thing that does not show up along with 1200 items is for example Victoria 4.2 So if I was to rely solely on Daz Connect I would be missing content.
Ah, okay, I thought that those should still show up even if they can't be installed with Connect, but I can't find any examples, so maybe they aren't supposed to. Let me see if I can get a definitive answer on that.
I'm having a little different issue with 4.9: in the Content Library I can't see some files (characters, scenes, etc.) that I created saving them with previous versions. From 4.8 I still do see and load them without problems; the funny thing is that's they're not the older ones I created: files saved long before are showing correctly. Any suggestions?
Thanks! :-/
Is this in Content Library > Daz Studio Formats or Content Library > Categories?
I may have the wrong end of the stick here, but as I understand it the reason you can't 'content manage' stuff from most other sources is to do with metadata that is often not generated by the makers. I don't use 4.9 (scared to install in case I can't get back 4.8 which does not rely on DRM) but I thought you could still download everything locally and use content manager (CM) that way - would that include V4.2?
The way I generally find anything that does not readily appear in Content Manager is by going to the 'my content library' folder in explorer (I imagine something similar for other systems) and search for the name (eg 'pirate') but being as specific as I can be. That then tells me where to look in CM. Not elegant but it works. The difficulty comes when I don't know I have a particular item or the maker uses bizarre titels. For example, if the maker calls his or her hair 'Banana Hair' it is findable just seeking 'hair', so if I don't know that 'Banana' is the style I want, I can still probably find it. If the name is simply 'Banana' it becomes nigh-on impossible.
Hope this helps.
By the way, does anyone know how I easily find discussions I want to follow or to which I contribute?
