Change of Content Library Location

I have a new SSD and I am moving my Content Library and saved scenes to that drive.

I tried copying them, but I got warning messages, so I am downloading everything to the new location using the DIM. It appears to be downloading to the new location ok.

I have input the new location into the Contect Library Manager in Daz Studio.

Where does the Products and Categories setup come from? Will they appear automaticall or do I have to create them somehow? I cant rememer as it was so long ago that I set this up.

Have I missed anything? Will this work ok?

Please let me know as it is taking such a long time and I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks

Can you remember what the error messages were? You might not have needed to re-download.

The Products and Categories views are driven by the same database that gives you Smart Content. Before finally switching over to the new content location, if you go into the database controls (Options menu in the Content Library tab) and Export User Data; then after switching over you can re-import the User Data, that should give you all the database-driven functions back.

Note that this exported data is saved in a subfolder of your first listed Runtime location; if you've already copied across your Runtime, look for extra or much larger files in your /Runtime/Support/ folder, that's your exported database, which can easily be copied to the new location.

One thing that people doing this sometimes forget — when you download and install using DIM, the actual installation .zip files are saved (unless you tell DIM to delete after installing). If you carry on after the switchover without changing the setting, DIM will continue saving the installers in the old location. This can lead to drives unexpectedly filling up, if you don't realise what's happening.

  • Spottedkitty, thanks for all of that - very usefull.

    • Error Message;

    • "Install Manager cannot find a required path. The package for "Scene Builder for DAZ Studio Public Build +Beta+" requires that the installed path for "DAZ Studio 4.x Public Build" be defined. Make sure that a path for this application is present on the "Applications" page of the "Settings" dialog, then try again. "

The public build beta has installed ok. What should I do about this?

    Thanks

Did you have them set to install after download or are ypu downloading and installing seperately?  It may be that it downloaded and tried to install the Scene Builder before the application finished downloading.

Sound like to me you have 2 installations of DAZ Studio and the Install Manager or DAZ Studio Public Beta is still configured to install a Public Beta product to the Release version of DAZ Studio which, thankfully for you, it will refuse to do. Check that the Install Manager configuration is trying to install to the DAZ Public Beta Install location and not the release version of DAZ Studio. On my computer that both remain and now for example, I cannot install release version of some plugins to the public beta version of DAZ Studio, only the correct Public Beta versions of those plugins may be installed there.

OK, so I need to delete the public build in the Applications tab of the Install Manager?

No, you should see entries for both in the Applications tab.

Well darn, I was going to check & tell you exactly were to go but DAZ Install Manager started downloading a new DAZ Studio Public Beta as soon as I started it up.

So look in the top right hand corner of the DAZ Install Manager at the gear icon and click on that for your configuration settings.
