Daz Studio Primitives - Are they still Available?

Daz Studio Primitives - Are they still Available?

Many DS Versions ago, may even have been Free Items, Daz Studio had some Primitives - Cube, Sphere, Flat Plane etc.....

Are those Primitives still available or and updated version of them?

Thanks

DR

As a separate product?  I don't think so, but within DS, yep.  Always have.  From the Menu bar: Create ->New Primative

Or the little icon at the top that looks like a bowtie (next to camera, spotlight, etc.) - the primitives come in handy...

Or use the menu Create->New Primitive

There is also this product from vendor Maclean http://www.daz3d.com/everyday-morphing-primitives, if you're interested.

    Here's a little story.

Back in the days of DS 1.something, I was playing in DS, and I couldn't open a Poser file because the Ball.obj was missing. I put in a feature request asking that DS incorporate the same Poser primitives in .obj form so we could avoid these errors. Well, imagine my surprise when they fulfilled my request - with a bullet! - and released DS with its own primitives generator. LOL. I hadn't expected anything like that! So, I'm proud to say I may have nudged them into adding that feature to DS. (They might have done it anyway, but hey...).

The fact that I created the Morphing Primitives pack later on is pure coincidence.

How have I never come across these @maclean ?? Genius product, do they have UV maps?
  • macleanmaclean Posts: 2,438

Do you mean the Morphing Primitives? Yes, they have UV maps - in the sense that they're all UV mapped to accept textures. But the templates are only included for 4 primitives, because all the others are mapped to take any square texture. If you use wood, stone, metal or whatever textures, as long as they're in any square format, they'll apply perfectly.

I love Maclean's morphing primitives, although I often forget I have them and after the event think 'Duh, I could've used the morphing primitives for that!'. Usually after I've thrown money at the problem instead. It's not always the way, though. Not so long ago I needed a windmill and didn't have one at the time. I only wanted a darkened silhouette of it against a night sky, absolutely no detail whatsoever apart the outline, and so I cobbled one together from the morphing primitives in about two minutes flat. Definitely one of my more useful purchases.

    Astracadia,

That's what I like to hear! Someone surprising me with a use I would never have thought of. And that's exactly why I made the pack. You never know what weird shape will come in useful.

PMFJI, but this thread seems to end, ah, somewhat abruptly?

I just noticed the... expensive-looking Gescon set (store link). I especially liked the Roman bust!  I have Predatron's version of a morphing bust, heh. Big fun.
