Lighting Problems

OK so I hope that I am not alone on this note. A few years ago, (2013) I worked in daz a lot. I created hundreds of amazing pictures for marketing and comics out the yang. I got a new job and had to put my mad skills away for a bit. I come back now after 3 years and was hoping to pick up where I left off. However, I can not get the lighting right? Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a new trick that I am missing? I feel so list. I have tried to create distant lights, spot lights, etc to fix the issue but nothing seems to bring the light that I need. I am so confused!

The default render engine since 4.8 has been Iray -- you can switch back to 3delight on the Render Settings pane if you prefer.

  • I take it Iray is harder to master than 3delight? Thanks for the response!

It depends -- a lot of peoplke find Iray easier, particularly if you have some real-world lighting experience (photography, cinematography, stage lighting, etc.).  A lot of the tricks from those fileds are transferable.  Personally, I find 3delight more intuitive.

Iray is much easier than 3DL and you have more options.

I found a thread that had some pointers for the Iray for the outside lighting, but no matter what i try (spot light, pin light, ) i can not get the light inside the shop. Would love to get some tips/ pointers on how to fix that issue.

    Thanks in advance!

There are a few things in here that I know I need to fix I was just hoping to get that lighting down. Thanks again!

Can you add the image as an attachment to a post here?  The link you posted doesn't allow public access.

  • I  addeed,. Sorry about that.

    Hi ACDennis,

there is a big difference between what we see (how our brain composes) a picture and how the light intensities are in real - and shown by every photography.
First it is pure physical: We see 10 times real intensity as only double brightness.
Second: Our brain selects every detailed spot of a scene, amplifies the brightness so it suits the other environment and composes all these detailed (part-)pictures into one overall image.

What you show in your picture is what you thought you saw. But in real the interior of the shop (without the inner lights switched on) is that dark, you almost can't see any details.
You can install ceiling lighting in the shop or simply use some spotlights creating an imaginary lighting in the shop.

    Otherwise its like this: http://andysanderson.deviantart.com/art/Fashion-in-Bungalow-DayLight-iRay-537512576
    or this: http://andysanderson.deviantart.com/art/3-Boys-at-Bungalow-iRay-594359920

You should keep in mind: iRay is pure photo-realistic !
