Will the 64 bit version work with windows 64?
Which WIndows 64? As long as you don't mean XP, which will have some issues regardless of bits, yes.
Sorry I meant xp 64.. it seems ok with the 32 bit version.. but I want to take advantage of the balance of my ram wich xp32 does not access. Plus I want to get the othyer rendering engines..wg=hich I guess dont work in 32 bit version of DS.. I'm sure it wont be as good as win 7, but I dont have win 7 yet :)
Unfortunately XP 64 is an odd beast - it was never released as a stand-alone version, as far as I recall, and its support status has been variable by all reports. As you say, Iray is 64 bit only. Unfortunately I don't have any useful advice, and I'm not aware of any regular poster who uses XP64 though if you edit your thread title to mention XP64 someone who can help may see it. Edit: oops, I see this isn't your thread - I will split it out into a new thread for you.
Michaelxm_a1ddd: Cant' confirm the current version, 4.9, will work but up until 4.7/4.8 i did have an XPx64 machine running with daz studio 64 and it performed well on it. I didn't bother with iray much as it was only a dual core that served as a file server/dev rig towards the end. Sitting in a corner now collecting dust.
FYI:XP x64 is a twitchy beast when it comes to software compatibility. This is inherent as it's based on the windows NT(server) kernal.
Becaus of it's twitchyness i had to dual boot that system with both 32 and x64. Major PIA.
Finally had to upgrade to 7 due to other software incompatibility.
Richard: XP x64 was released as a commercial item. It didn't go over real well because x64 tech was in its infancy for home users. They were still fighting between the x86 architecture and the Itanium. My copies wedged between the xp32 flavors and vista flavors on my shelf today.
I agree with both of you about xp64 being pretty shakey..and the yes the 4.9 wont even install to it..so I went ahead and reinstalled my vista home premium back in..and it seems to work ok with it :) By the way I posted about content but it seems to have disappeared..but anyway..with V4.. I couldnt find it..but then I saw some tool tip about where it was..then D:S did some sort of ritual to it..and now I can see it.. something to do with rather or not items have a check mark (V4 did not) in the installer or not.. I got a lot of stuff witn no check mark/// geez
So will I have to manually install all those that do not have the box checked next to them.. It was odd V4 was not, but v3 was
The check mark indicates that a product has metadata, to add it to the content management system so that it appears in Smart Content, and in the Product and Category lists in the Content Library. Installing manually won't make up for that. If an item lacks metadata you can still find it (if it's correctly isntalled) un Poser Formats or DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library pane - for example, Poser Formats>My DAZ 3D Library>Figures>DAZ People for Victoria 4.
Thank you for the tips, Richard.. I am gradually getting the hang of DS again ;o)
Daz Studio does NOT support XP x64 anymore.
I think 4.6 was the last version to officially support XP x64
Thank you for the input, Matty. Yes, I pretty much figured so. Even the older one did not play well with it, but that's ok I have since moved on to Windoze 7 :o)
