Help with lighting

Hello!  Quick question I hope.

I have been a Victoria4/Michael4 user for a long time, and just recently decided to try out Genesis Male 2.

I have loaded him into a render with a Victoria4 model, and his lighting is WAY off.  For some reason he can't get any brighter, and I feel like I've tried all the options under surfaces.

Attached is the rough draft render just to show what I mean.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • Basically, how do I make his skin look like actual skin here?  Do I need to buy a mat?

  • i think i can answer this, but a question first.

Are you rendering in 3delight or iray?

if it's 3delight i'd check to see if the shader that loaded on g2m was the iray material and apply the 3delight preset.

If it's iray, i'd check to make sure the iray preset is being used.

I think you've gotten into the "lighting compatibility problem of 3d", basically what works with one thing doesn't work with another.

in this case it boils down to the lighting that works with v4 won't work with g2m

The main cause can be that the v4's are using the daz default material, and g2m is using subsurface scattering material. The lighting necessary is wildly different, in my experience.

I'd try turning off all the lights, then bring them back in one at a time to see which one is causing the futz. It's time consuming, but lighting always is.
