renders won't enlarge

yesterday I could go to my render library in Daz 4.9 and enlarge and look at any of my renders. Today, none of them will enlarge. Double click doesn't work and right clicking and choosing open doesn't work. They're all there, and all of my new renders show up there also. But none will enlarge. They're all . png files. What happened? Thx for any help

Are you looking at the icon files?

I believe so. The pics of the renders  that are in the render library. I used to double click or right click and open. Now nothing happens when I do that. I'm a newbie so my state of confusion varies daily.

If you open a system file-browser to the location of your render library what files are present? There should be a full size and a thumbnail for each.

I'm at work today. I'll ck when I get home. I wonder why it worked one day and the next day it didn't. My confusion level is definitely elevated over this one.

When you save a render, either manually or through your render settings, DAZ Studio automatically saves the render itself as well as an thumbnail icon, as Richard said. The original, full-size render will usually be a .jpg unless you specified otherwise, while the thumbnail icon will be in .png format. For example, you should see something like MyRender.jpg and MyRender_jpg_icon.png.

When the render is done I've always saved it as the default, which I think, is .png. I didn't know to save it as jpg. I guess it's better to save as a jpg? I haven't seen the Myrender icons I don't think. But I haven't looked. I'm not sure where exactly to look. Where can I find them? Daz can be confusing to me. I do appreciate all the help. It would be very hard to do this without all the knowledgeable people on the forums.

jpg is the default, but png is better in that it isn't lossy and it preserves the alpha channel. The only benefit of jpg is size.

Just in case it is not clear above, and perhaps to confuse you more, every render saves as two files. One is the icon, for which I have yet to see a purose, but it is typically saved as 'filename_icon' and is small. The other defaults as a jpg file and shows as 'filename'. That should open normally, with the sizes determined before rendering. So if you called your render 'masterpiece' it would list as 'masterpiece.jpg' and 'masterpiece_icon.png'.

One mistake I have occasionally made (but normally notice) is that I change the setting for the render from, say 1800 x 1200 pixels to say 300 x 200 pixels in order to check lights etc. Then I forget to reset. You may have done that without realising it.

Thx everyone, I found all the renders with the icons. I don't know why the icons are there either. I probably did something with the render settings and didn't realize it. I'll look when I get home. Now I can see my renders a lot better. There's so much I don't know about this stuff.  You guys have saved another life.
