Communication to server failed

I get this error when I try to connect in the 4.9 beta. I'm wondering if I'm entering the wrong password? (Edit - Nope. I just checked with a random password and got a different message, so it's not that).

If not the pw, what else could it be?

Two other things...check the time and date...in the BIOS.  Some servers/connections will fail if the clock is wrong...and most operating systems query the system clock/interact with it.

AV...if you were connecting before and it suddenly stopped...and if there was an AV update, it could now be blocking the connection (yeah, AVs do that kind of stuff all the time...they are worse than Windows when it comes to keeping the settings you've made).

I'll check the BIOS, but I doubt it's that.

Re AV - I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and switched to Comodo Firewall specifically to run the DS 4.9 beta with CMS. ZA won't allow it to run, which is why I switched. So today is my first attempt. I've given it full permission in Comodo, so I don't think it's a firewall issue.

Ok..Comodo is usually pretty good, once you give things permission.

A little story about the time bit...

One day I tried logging in to my bank's online banking page.  You get 3 tries before you have to call in and wait an hour to try again.  It took 6 hrs, because even though my clock on the desktop was showing the right time, the bios was off and once I reset it to the correct time, the login went through..without having to call the bank AGAIN.

I checked the BIOS and it's set to the correct date.

At this point, I've set DS to work offline and stop trying to connect. I don't need connect or smart content. I only have my own products, so there's no need for it. I only wanted 4.9 to do promo renders, because of the Iray speed improvements. I do everything else in 4.8, so I'll forget connect for now.

    Thanks for the help anyway.

PS Yes, Comodo is good, but 'training' it is a bit of a pain. It gives me alerts for every single thing I do in the various versions of DS I run (2 3 4.8 and 4.9), including import/export. But it's mostly under control now.
