Max & Maya 2010 to Daz 4.9

Hey All!

Just wondering if anyone has any info/tuts/videos on creating models in 3DS Max or Maya 2010 to import/work in Daz Studio 4.9 correctly (normals, textures, etc...)? Don't need to know about figures or clothing right now, just normal background type assets (buildings, vehicles, etc...). Any help on this would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  • Well the thing to understand is that DAZ figures are super small compared to Max stuff. I scale up the figures by 100% and import into Max and then model using them as a size reference. Once done in Max I scale down by 100% and import to Daz...perfecto. Lots of ways to scale but I use freeware OBJ Action SCaler by Maz.

DS native scale is 1 unit = 1cm - if the models are coming into Max too small that probably indicates the wrong scale preset is being used.

  • So if I set Max or Maya native grid size to cm, it should work okay?

If you export at 100%, yes. DS has several presets in the OBJ export dialogue for diffrent applications, and you can make your own, so it matters which you are using.
