why ds 2.3 you may ask? well, i love it for making my characters for v4 and m4. poses and lights too :) however, my windows 8 laptop/packard bell, intel etc, is still giving me transparent figures. i have rolled back whatver i can, updated, +++ soo is there a way to work around it?? i do have ds 4,9 too, but not too comfy with it yet.....

Got an old copy of XP laying around? Got plenty of hard drive space? A good...8 or more GB of RAM?
Then you'd probably be better off running a virtual machine with XP than trying to get 2.3 to actually work in a modern OS...the hardware and way things are done are too much for it to cope with. VMware, VirtualBox and all the rest aren't very difficult to set up and will emulate the older hardware, besides running a copy of the OS.
Why? I've got DS 2-point-something installed on this Windows 8.1 laptop now. (Of course, I don't use it but every third blue-moon or so....)
ahaa! im gonna try that :)
Intel or Nvidia graphics on the laptop, ES?
Because I could not get it to run well at all on my wife's laptop...(it was 8.1 at the time...).
Is the problem when rendering or in the viewport? I've seen weird OpenGL transparency issues in the viewport using 2.3 with a graphics card from this decade, but I didn't think it affected 3DL renders.
For me, with the Intel graphics on the laptop, it was practically unusable...and very, very sluggish. Plus it was more crash prone.
I don't think I've actually attempted a render in 2.3 on this machine, but it's got AMD graphics and CPU. Works well enough for Iray in 4.8 and 4.9, though.
My DAZ 3D directory looks like this:
2.3.3.146
3.1.3.32
I left out one or two minor directories, but yeah. Every one of those you see (except DS4/Content) is a working licensed copy of Daz|Studio. I can even run them concurrently, but after the second one it starts to bog down.
I'm suspecting that is the big difference...
