Contact customer support; they may let you have a version.

I use 4.9 beta with 4.8. I didn't install the PostGRE SQL parts and it works fine outside of that. You get a warning window but it doesn't effect most things not installing it; one part not working that can be useful is the highlighting of new items... I can easily live without that.

Thanks for the reply, I am little out of the loop, I read about 4.9 when it was released and after reading how it messed up so many content files I just backed away and waited to see. I see now they have a 12 month expiration on the encryption which is something but I dont want 4.9 messing with my content. 4.8 is doing just fine.

Are you saying if I dont install the PostGRE SQL parts it will be fine with no encryption and no messing up my content? How did you do an instal and not install the PostGRE SQL parts?

I'm not sure what threads you read, but there seem to be some misunderstandings.

4.9 doesn't encrypt content, it can only decrypt contend that is already encrypted.

Also, it doesn't touch already installed content.

if you download content through DAZ connect, that will get installed in its own directory, using a different folder substructure. But you can install content the usual way, with the exception of encrypted files.

Only select files you want to install; uncheck install after download.

I highly recommend installing the Postgresql parts, without them there are portions of the application that will not function correctly.

Logging in through Daz Connect is a completely separate thing which is entirely optional if you don't want to use any of the encrypted-only content. If you do choose to use encrypted-only content then you don't even have to be online to use it just login a single time on your system and you can use your encrypted-only content without ever having to reconnect. No silly games like time-limited authentication or limited authorization counts just a single connection to load your user-specific encryption key.

Additionally 4.9 won't move any of your existing content. Even if you reinstall content with Daz Connect it does not touch your existing content folders.

Thanks, I wanted to ask you your opinion as you have been quite vocal in the threads about DRM and as your signature suggests, so you have no issuse with loading up 4.9 now? You dont see it as a gateway to a more restrictive use of DAZ and possibly more restrictions in the future?  I see you have done so as per your suggestions but just curious.

I see so looking back thought the threads the new products from DAZ are what is encrypted and 4.9 decrypts it.

On using a different folder substructure, I have read you can recreate your own folder guess I gave the faqs a quick look but will have to read over when I have time. I was just functional the first time around finding my files now I dont want to have to go reading through hours of posts tto figure out howw to reorganize my files after 4.9

Thank you RAWB so is it true the only encrypted-only content new content less than a year old? If so starting from when?

Only content specifically marked as "Encrypted DAZ Connect Only" requires decrypting.  ALL other content (yes, even new stuff) can still be downloaded and installed by DIM or manually.  Only a few Encrypted products have been released so far, but that may change.  (you can see on the product page what install methods are available, if it says Connect and DIM and Manual, it's not encrypted.  If you see the "Encrypted" one there, it's encrypted only.)

I personally haven't updated to 4.9 due to the myriad other issues with Connect, File placement, DB and content coherency, and other issues.  I'm holding out until they get more of it ironed out.

Ignoreing the Connect and DRM, the differences are not great between them; the upgrade to IRAY, however, is worth having - so too I suspect is 3Delight, but I don't use it. As I have no intention, and have taken steps to disable Connect, those features are not of interest to me.

I have backups of products I purchased - lots of backups. What Daz decides to do in the future is beyond my control. As long as I have access to the content I bought, I haven't any issues. As I won't be buying anything encrypted, and indeed have curtailed my spending since this started, as things currently stand I won't be affected at all.

I don't even like its presence, but I can live with it. It isn't currently affecting me; and barring a number of catastrophic events happening to all my backups, is extremely unlikely to. That is one reason I don't like DRM, it's the unknown, but at least all my products are unencrypted.

Parts of it aren't decrypted. Although to be fair to Daz some files even before 4.9 are encrypted, and understandably to some extent. This is, however, why the new system should be called DRM; it is a form of DRM, although one with fewer restrictions than many.

I certainly have no issues with 4.9 beta; I didn't like an earlier release of 4.9, which imo, was way too buggy for general release. I reinstalled beta when it was at 4.9.1.21 release and am currently using 4.9.1.30; I keep coppies of each beta incase I need to rollback.
