Installation on new Laptop (Solved)

emms54emms54 Posts: 41

Hi,

I am trying to install Daz to a new laptop. But after installing through DIM, DAZ is working very slow, and freezes.

For login, prompt of characters takes minutes, and login freezes.

Install directory is on a separate disk as shown on the picture

Any one has an idea how to make a fresh install ?

UPDATE : The issue was solved, after I found that there is a program compatibility issue with Nahimic software (audition enhancement on MSI).

I got to this finding by random, checking every resident program. This was a lucky pick, after over 15 hours of researches.

For DAZ developpers: it would be great to have some tools to check the health of the system (like PostGresql, debug mode or whatever)

What are the specifications of your laptop, and what security software are you using?

    Hi,

My Laptop is MSI Core I7, on Windows 10,32 GB RAM, 216 GB SSD, double Nvidia card 980 on SLI

I am using AVG security Suite.

    I have attached C:\Users\emman\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\log.txt

I have reconfigured PostgreSQL port to 5432

    I'd rather reinstall from scratch

I tried to reinstall, after deleting every thing that is Daz related. I installed only the main programs:

But I have the same result:

    • Daz works slowly
    • Login in DAZ is pending, no result
    • Some entries like entering login name, or changing Daz directories in Content Directory Manager works very very slow (prompt of characters is taking minutes)
    • Some functions are not displaying anything like Window>Workspace>select Layout

    crying

It does appear there may be a minor issue with your content duirectory setup, it would be undesirable in geernal but I can't think why it would cause a slow interface:

WARNING: general\dzcontentmgr.cpp(1349): Nested directory encountered while adding a content folder: C:/Users/emman/OneDrive/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library : C:/Users/emman/OneDrive/Documents/DAZ 3D

Should I change this parameter in Daz or in  DIM ?

If you have the folders set in both then both - you should not have one content directory inside another as it can confuse paths. Of course if you have installed content to both you are going to need to separate that out.

    Hi,

I have redefined the paths, warning disappears, but issues remain the same.

As I wrote, most actions take minutes. Is there a debug mode to see what is going on ? I imagine base resources missing, like C++ library or something.

    I attach the new C:\Users\emman\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\log.txt

Your machine is far better specified than mine, so I don';t knoww hy you are having such issues. Since no one else has chipped in with a suggestion I think you need to open a support ticket.

Have you run any test software; laptops often have crap installed by manufacturer that hogs the resources.

I don't use AVG, Avast; I find paying money for something like security gets me less issues, including performance ones; others will have different experiences.

I'd run some benchtest software though, just to see if it's the laptop, and not Daz.

@Richard Yes, I opened a ticket. Last time, it took one week for an empty answer (I asked when Cloud Servers would be available for Iray)

@Nicst No, I didn't. The config is very powerful (double Nvidia 980M on a laptop, 256GB SSD). It should run like a hurricane. I have the same config on my PC, I run 2 to 3 Studio instances in //

It looks like a bug, because some (essential) functions are not running. Hard to tell without a tool where it comes from. Nothing in the logs. crying

The issue almost resolved by itself.surpriselaugh

As I was trying to reinstall PostgreSQL, Daz has started to work properly. And the log is much more detailed.

I still cannot login, so I have no SmartContent, but other functions are Okay.

This is a great improvement, magic angel  I would say.

    Hi,

The issue started again after a reboot. But I have a message, related to Postgresql

    I attach dblogtxt from CMS

After reinstall of PostgreSql through DIM, I don't have this message anymore, but the slowdown has restarted : when I type characters (in login window for example) it takes more than 20 seconds to display in the field.

Several errors in the log file related to PostgreSql, I tried to reset the db in Daz, but no result.

Init db error: ERROR:  expected "]"

I found the issue. Compatibility issue with one Software installed on my laptop:

    Nahimic MSI program.
    https://gaming.msi.com/en/features/nahimic

Why so ? No idea, but shutting down this program resolves the pb.
