Where do body parts go when replaced?

I thought maybe someone could help with an issue. I'm using the Gen 2 female and trying some packages that replace body parts (like the arm) with another part (like a robot arm). This is like with the Bot Armor or the Mech arm sold here at DAZ. The problem is when I add these to the figure, the original Gen 2 body part disappears. Now that's what most people want, a replacement, but I was hoping I could bring the original body part back, or some of it. I don't see where the Gen 2 body part is turned off, and I don't see anything going on with the surfaces. Any idea how to turn the Gen 2 parts back on?

Thanks

Those are geografted items and they replace the part...it's an 'all or nothing' deal.  To make a geograft the geometry has to match at the point of the graft, so that means, for practical purposes, there is only one point it can attach to and replace the original part.  And it will replace all the geometry from the point of attachment onwards...if it is an arm that attaches at the shoulder...it will replace the arm from the shoulder to the ends of the fingers.

Or it can be made to replace a chunk in the middle...but it will replace all of it between the limits.

Best bet is to load a second copy of the figure, hide all but the parts you want to keep and then use a combination of Deformers and transparency maps to blend the part with geograft.

  • Okay thanks.

I actually tried loading the same figure again, and turning some of the replacement part off and the image looked pretty good. I could see more of the orginal arm and skin; however, I could not figure out how to get the second figure to move with the original. I tried "parenting" and that did not work, then "fitting" and that went bonkers.

    Thanks

That's where the playing around for a long time comes in...

For that kind of work it's best to use 'stock' poses...that makes it easy to apply to both models.   Parenting should keep them together...but it's not going to be the same as being fitted.

You can change what is hidden using the Geoemtry Editor tool. Select the polygons on the figure that you stil want hidden, excluding those you want visible, fit the add-on part, right-click in the view port with the base figure selected and from the menu go to (from memory) Geometry Assignment>Assign to AutoHide group for GeoGrafts, then pick the add-on in the dilalogue that opens. If you now fit the add-on to None, then back to the figure the adjusted hide gorup will be used.
