I edited some materials like hair and clothes, loading the ones that say for example on the clothes (wardrobe) and changing them to the materials, different coloured hair clothes and then saved them as a material preset. How do I load them onto the figure?

You click on the mesh that matches with the preset and then double click the preset. The preset should be located at Content Library Tab - DAZ Studio Formats - Library - Presets - Materials.
If you find you like it you can add it to 'Smart Content' (right click on your Materiel Preset Icon to see your possible options) but I'll leave that up to you do a external search of the forums for.
