Hair not rendering

This question has probably been asked but I just couldn't find it.  Playing with the beautiful Odessa hair in DS4.9.  Put it on my character and selected an Iray texture but the hair renders all white.  No matter what I do, it won't render the hair.  I have deleted it and tried some other hair models and they render no problem.  Started over with Odessa and it rendered white again.  Am I missing a setting or something?  I have never had this problem before.

You might have to go into the surfaces tab, and also select it there. Some items need to, some don't, so I usually do that with everything now to save frustration and time. I do not have odessa hair, so could not pop it in and try it myself, but I have seen some hairs act this way.

  • Hello, I am having the very same issue using Sapphire Hair for Genesis 3. I'm pretty novice to the software, and I'm afraid I don't really understand how to select it in the surfaces tab. I know to first select the hair, and where the surfaces tab is, but there are lot of options in there... what exactly do I do?

I have noticed for some materials, I have to open up the Surfaces tab, and select the top surface name for the material properties to copy over properly.

It might have something to do with subsurface shaders.  The default material doesn't have subsurface properties, and so they don't initially exist yet.  Whether this is a bug or a quirk, I don't know.
