Iray uber base shader and EULA

Hello!  A quick question, I have searched but couldn't find anything.  I am adding DS compatibility for some of my Poser items, and I am wondering if it's acceptable to use the Iray uber base shader on my model with my textures, adjust the settings and then distribute it as part of my package?

Thanks!

If you use the Surfaces pane and save a Materials preset (or a Shader Preset, though I don't think that is what you want) it saves only the settings and a link to the AoA SSS Shader, not the shader itself, so yes that is OK to share. What you may not do is go into Shader Mixer and edit there, as that will embed the modified shader in the presets.

  • Exactly. I open my Poser prop, then I apply the Iray uber base shader, make sure the textures are correct and then adjust the settings for bump, glossiness etc and then save the preset. So it's basically the preset file with my textures and settings, based on the Iray uber base shader

Iray Uber is not the AoA SubSurface shader.  They are entirely seperate, and the AoA SSS shader was designed for 3Delight and released well before Iray was available.  On the other hand, the Iray Uber shader is as independent of ShaderMixer as is the Daz Default Material, so that when you import the Iray Uber from your figure's "Lips" material, the material name in either case is "Lips", and going back to twiddle a few dials and add a map to one parameter will import a significantly different node tree to Shader Mixer.  So yeah, go ahead and save Iray Uber presets, or even default surfaces, all over everything.  It's not going to be a copyright issue as far as the shader is concerned.

  • Alright thanks guys for the answers, I will go ahead and save and include presets then. :)
