Mixed textures

I'm playing with terrains. Is there a way to mix textures togther somewhat randomly ?

It's just that a terrain with one single tiled texture doesn't look that good. And the repeating texture always look banded and unrealistic.

So I am after a way to mix mulitple textures on the terrain.

Many thanks.

Try adding a 2nd, and even maybe a 3rd copy of the terrain, with different textures and give them varying levels of morphs and see if you can get a good blend between them.

    Which renderer?

If it's Iray, you can use decals/masks or topcoat...

You can do the same with UberSurface 2 (not US) in 3Delight...it has a mix mode between the layers.

I'll try that but I thought it might be a bit jaggy.

I need a solution for 3Delight and Iray. Do you jknow any tutorials ? I downloaded the one from Daz, but it is outdated and very basic.

I thought maybe I could do something with the shader mixer, but have not really worked it out yet.

Going the Shader Mixer route...there used to be a lot of good stuff that has gone away, but 3DCheapskate has a multi-layer ShaderMixer network with a good 'how to use' guide...

    Here's the guide: http://www.sharecg.com/v/71752/gallery/3/PDF-Tutorial/Using-The-DAZ-Studio-Shield-Shader

    And the network: http://www.sharecg.com/v/66637/gallery/21/DAZ-Studio/DAZ-Studio-Shader-For-S.E.Asian-Shields
