Render speed altered because of type of Hair?

I was experimenting today with some animation and the rendering speed usually goes awesome when 3Ddelight selected rather than Iray, like 30 frames in 30 minutes, but today after loading genesis 3 and assigning her Leyton Hair , speed was so damn slow , like it was more than 5minutes on the Frame 0 , does not happen , often.
So i tried rendering the image before hopping to the movie file, and the same the hair part would not show up in the preview pane and it would keep loading and the progress bar would not go further from 5%.This again in 3D Delight doesnt happen that quiet often, with my image dimension at default, specially, it shouldnt,
So , I had a hunch and I assigned her Tofusan Quiet Medium Hair, and back we were to 15 minutes for 30 frames, this time, I was so happy to get that speed back. again in 3Delight.
I tried the same with Genesis 2, was playing around with Coleraine Hair , same result ,speed crappy, then changed it to Tulip Hair and back we were to speed awesome.
I know a lot of ppl bring changes to the shading and what nots but hair would change speed too, I dont know how is this happening? but kind of restricts my options though. Anyone any ideas....

Hair can really slow things down with transmaps and self-shadowing. Ubersurface has some options which can speed things up, I use http://www.daz3d.com/uberhair-shader-upgrade-for-ubersurface
Hell yes. The newer hairs all add a lot of time to renders. They look good, though.
if one hair has a displacment and one don't and you have shadows expect a huge hit in performance.
