how to import an exteranl "obj" file into the "content library" of daz3d
Hello, here are some statement for this question ...
- I'm newbee in Daz3d
- Daz3D is quite an impressive tool ... thank you for making it free.
- I only have Daz3D, not Poser.
- I already spent time trying to find the solution on Google but did not find it.
so here are my questions all around the same issue ...
- What is the procedure to create a new object that is visible in the content library of Daz3D when starting from an external "obj" file? For example if I've created and exported a cube using blender and I want to incorporate the associated "obj" file in a scene in Daz3D.
- Is there any tutorial that I could look at?
For these two questions, I've looked at the internet but all the time it is about "installing" into Daz3D an already created and formated package.
I want to create my own package and I don't know how to create the "cr2", "pz2", "pp2", ... files
I wouold really appreciate any help from the community.
thanks in adavnce, have a good day all.

Under File, you'll find Import, that is how to import an .obj; you may need to scale appropriately, but harder to advise on. Check out the settings for importing if you do.
Once a model is in you can save it as a subset, or whichever is more appropriate of the other presets.
You might apply an IRAY shader to it, then tweak the materials.
You could then save a Material Preset, a Shader Preset in additioin to the subset; I like subsets myself, but also use a number of the others.
Smart content will put items where it thinks you should have em... Not keen on that so I disabled it.
But you can set up your own custom folders and add them to the library; press f2 to bring up the preferences and you can go to content library and add those folders.
Thank you very much for your answer. I'm trying it right now.
Is it correct the "cr2", "pz2", "pp2", ... files will be created when I do "save a material preset" ?
have a good day.
CR2 etc. are Poser files. Either save a Scene subset with your imported and surfaced OBJ or use File>Save as>Support Assets>Figure Prop Asset (which will create the asset files in \Data\Author\Product using the names entered in the option dialogue and place a preset for loading in the location yu se with the file dialogue).
ok thanks
Note that the saving as a Support Asset is the "proper" way to do it; this saves all the D|S-format data files that make up the converted D|S object, as opposed to the original Poser-format files. This means the converted object is easier to load properly into other scenes, just like any item you buy from the DAZ store.
