can Iray Worlds SkyDome also used for 3Delight?

If I don't want to render in Iray,  since it takes forever, and I can't see any changes that i made right away,  so i want to use 3Delight for the rendering.

Can I still use the Iray Worlds SkyDome package?

Thank you

I have! All you need to do is convert the skydome and base, put the textures that were emission into ambient, make the skydome not cast shadows, hide the sun object, and add actual light sources. You could also convert the sun into a meshlight (arealight), but I wouldn't recommend it. The result is a high quality skydome, basically.

Thank you.   What do you mean with convert the dome and base?   (Sorry i am new to that part)

Convert to a 3dl shader (like daz default or ubersurface). 3DL and Iray use some similar parameters but many not similar. So after you convert one to the other, there's often a fair amount of tweaking necessary.

For a skydome I'd recommend Ubersurface.  There are a couple of controls that are really nice to have on a dome...like the ability to disable occlusion, in addition to disabling shadows.

Do you have a link for Ubersurface ?

I looked in the store and couldn't find it..

It's included in DAZ Studio - you should find it in the Presets tab of the Surface panel under Shaders - Other - !UberSurface Base

Thank you :)  I will check as soon as I get home.

No, it's not the Iray Uber Base. It should look like a copper kettle sort of thing in the thumbnail?

Maybe try going via Content Library - it should be under: Shader Presets - omnifreaker - UberSurface

(Make sure you have the Skydome selected in your Scene pane and the surface selected in the Surfaces pane - if you don't that may be why you are getting an error)

ETA: Sorry I can't stay in the Forum any longer tonight (it's after midninght here) Hope you manage to find the Ubersurface shader.

ok, I found the kettle that way (brown one)

still getting the error,  so I selected the scene or Camera 1, and then it worked..

(I don't have a skydomw in my Scene pane?)  or is that the Iray Sky dome?  (didn't buy that one yet)   there was one with the Pirate Cove (several domes and I selected 1 of those)

But without the dome.. I don't see any other settings in my tabs, dropdowns etc..

'Skydome selected' being the skydome that's from Iray Worlds.

If you are still having trouble finding UberSurface, you should be able to go into your content library and do a search for Ubersurface. Sometimes the shader presets act up on me, too.

A lot of shader presets will only show up when you have the object and it's surface selected in the surfaces tab.

Ah, I  misunderstood your first post - I thought you had already bought the Iray Worlds Skydome set.

If you are using Pirate Cove, I think that is already set up for 3Delight rendering, so you shouldn't need to change anything.

But if you buy the Iray Worlds Skydome set then you need to select the skydome from that set and change it to UberSurface as described above.

Now I'm back home and can provide examples. I love using Iray Worlds for 3dl because it's essentially a clever UV mapping strategy ... essentially, it's three copies of a HD image optimized to appear where you are likely to have the camera. The result is that you get more bang for your buck, when it comes to density of textures and what you actually see.

    These are all 3dl

Just bought the Iray Skydome + expansion.

    Going to play with it

Thank you both for you help so far.

    I'll report back :)

Hopefully that will get rid of all my white dots  that are showing  (See my other thread)

Nice Images William.. :)   wow..     Hopefully mine will look better now, when this Iray Dome  and setting it to 3Delight

ok got it installed.  (Couldn't log in this morning)

So, I added the IR-base / Sun / Skydome (was all in one)

And my render it black.  (turned headlight off)

So, I still need to add light...  Added a distant light and dropped a 8s-low-RrR

    Image look horrible  lol

Is there a way to preview it in a smaller window to see what you change?   cause I keep rendeing to see what it looks like,  and  that's a pain.

I wanted like how it looks when it's not rendered, (although I never can see a floor... can you that even to show that? )

Idk what i need to change to make that light better etc..  since i can't see it on the fly.

Is there a way to see it sorta realtime?

    Things to do:

Make the images smaller for test renders.

Make sure Progressive Rendering is on, so it goes in three passes. First pass really fast, you can see lighting, then second fills in more details, then slow final.

Be sure Skydome is set 'casts shadows: off' in parameters.

ok, did all of them, and now it looks better.

Now the next question (if that's even possible)

the light that comes through the window,  can it reflect on the items that are in the room?,  so you can see a shadow on the floor?

And another thing..  the sky was standard like some landscape,  and I overwrote it with night time moonlight..

But the item in the window doesn't change?

(btw.  found that Aux port,  show things directly once you change things)

Another thing I don't understand is, that it looks very nice in the aux viewer,  but  totally different if i render it.

but if i do the perspective view, instead of Camera 1,  then the render is awesome..

So why is there so much difference..   ?  (see the other image)

Created a new Camera from a new view, and now it's perfect..

Guess i don't get it..     Does the camera save the settings with or without a dome etc?
