Genesis 2 and 3 won't animate

Hi, I have Daz 4.9 and my Genesis 3 male and female won't animate using the aniMate blocks. I thought I had them animate before. But now they just move really weird.

Can I use aniMate to make Genesis 3 characters walk, dance etc.?

  • Ooops, Sorry, Not Genesis 2 and 3. Just Genesis 3 Female and Male.

Aniblocks for Genesis 2 won't work properly with Genesis 3 models.  The rigging between the two figures is different.  There are some products in the DAZ store that will convert animations between Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 formats, but I'm not sure if they convert aniblocks or just BVH style animations.

But, you can certainly use AniMate with Genesis 3, AFAIK.  You just have to use (or create your own) Genesis 3 aniblocks.

This is the primary reason I am skipping
    genesis 3 entirely.frown
as an animator G3 is useless to me.

  • Hi Wolf, if you have access to Motionbuilder  (you can get versions for 30 days, or if you are a student, for free), you can create animations there with mocap or keyframed and bring it in on g3 characters.  (or on any other character too).

    This is the process:

Export character from Daz studio in fbx format

bring it in to motionbuilder and characterize (using the roll bones when characterizing). do whatever animation you want to do.. make sure you plot to skeleton and eliminate any layers you might have, save the fbx

import the fbx file into daz studio in its entirety (meshes and all), then save a pose preset file.. which you then can apply to your dazgen3 characters.   This works well with just about any character so far.. there are a few little things I've noticed, some movement is restricted a bit.. probably due to limits, but I'm still playing around with this.  The trick is to keep the structure and naming in Motionbuilder exactly the same as daz exports it, so that when you bring it back to daz, it will apply it to the characters.  I have had issues with some older characters, that after you create the pose file and you apply it, it freezes up your computer (mostly original poser figures and some others).

Poser has a similar functionality, especially the poser pro versions, which you can import the fbx motion file (without meshes) onto your character directly.  What I love about this, is you don't get the foot sliding prevalent with bvh files (but sometimes there are other wonky issues due to Poser's crummy fbx import utility)

here's a link to a low res video http://www.kkstudio.us/cc/gen3test.mp4  .. and if anyone is interested, I can go throught the whole process

Hi I have Iclone pro/3D exchange.natural motions Endorphin & DS animate with the keymate&graphmate. No need to enslave myself to the Autodesk cloudware just to animate G3........... G1-G2 suits me quite nicely with my current toolset.

  • cool, I understand you completely! I stick to g1/g2 most of the time too and I wish there was a better alternative to using autodesk for fbx files.. I have to stick to it thanks to my customers.  Interesting to know there's another endorphin user out there though
