iray shaders and surface selection tool question?

I am new to DAZ Studio, and I have been purchasing lots of iRay shaders so I can fix materials issues with my Poser stuff. I can't seem to get DAZ Studio to load any materials to my items. I have a Vampirella outfit with a red surface, and without DAZ compatible shaders/materials it comes out white (textureless) in renders. I also want to be able to load iRay materials/change colors for hair such as goldtassel's "Gothic Hair" that only has three base colors. No materials selection will load, and using the surface selection tool on the hair and trying to load different shaders doesn't work. I tried searching DAZ's Documentation Center by typing "surface selection tool" in the search field, and nothing comes up. I tried the Wiki and nothing there either. Possibly I don't know how to execute a search, anyway, can anyone bail a newbie out here with either straight help, or directions on where to find this stuff on Daz3D's site. Thanks in advance.

Look at the little icons along the top of studio. One looks like three little cards and a tiny arrow. That is the surface selection tool. That tool is used to select the surface area group that the shader preset will be applied to as well as the object (both have to be selected for it to work) in the scene. Now if you want to use one of your purchased (or in the future perhaps saved by you) presets you use the tool to select what you want to apply to and then double click the shader. Alternately you can select by name on the surface tab. I'm wondering though if selection is the issue with why your shader presets are not properly applying and rendering. If this helps sort it out for you great. If not we may need more information.

Well, I was using that tool, and at first I wasn't seeing anything, but then I saw the surfaces (color) tab had the ability to select parts sort of like in Poser's Material room, and I was able to fix the colors in goldtassel's "Gothic Hair" and I presume when I try it on my Vampirella outfit it will be the same. Thanks for following up, anyway, I appreciate it. I wish that when I have these questions there was a better way to find stuff. Like I said, I could not get anything from a search of Daz3D's source material documentation or Wiki.

Thank you for continuing to look in on me.

I know there will be some similarities between new stuff and older stuff, but the reference section that stuff comes from is a Version 3.x software guide. If I go to one of those pages, and then work up the tree, its for DAZ Studio 3.0 from 2009 or so. I will try using it for what is overlapped, but for now, I have gotten my immediate problem solved. Looking at the information further, there appear to be a number of YouTube tutorial videos, so I may be able to get something useful there for later study and use.

Again, thank you very much for checking back! smiley
