Why does 'Work Offline' take ~10 minutes to activate?

Greetings,

So I bought some items in the store; they weren't showing up under 'Available' when I went into the store mode, so I figured I'd make it refresh by clicking 'Work offline', then logging in again.  It took a solid 10 minutes before the UI returned to usable, and replaced 'Work offline' with the green 'Login...' button.

I remembered that I'd had a similar problem earlier today, when I needed to pause the downloads so I could have a video call with work, so I clicked 'Work offline', but I hadn't paid attention to how long it took that first time.  (Btw, is there ANY other way to pause downloads?)

So...why is it taking so long to do what _should_ be a simple operation?

Is there a log to check?

Mine takes about 6 seconds; I have 1700 installed products (via DIM) - have removed all Poser parts that are not required.

Cancelling is the same as pausing, more or less, since it should quickly verify the files it had downloaded and move on to those it hadn't when you restart - but no, there isn't, as far as I know, a way to explicitly pause.
