Did you install PostgreSQL? You may have been using the old Valentina database engine up to now. If PostgreSQL is installed, what operating system and security software (firewall in particular) are you using?

  • Thank you for your response, Richard.  To make sure that PostgreSQL was installed properly, I uninstalled it then reinstalled it using the install manager.  No change.  I am on WIndows 7 SP2 and using the windows firewall and MS security essentials.

Then I'm not sure what the issue could be - none of those have a history of causing issues for DS/PostgreSQL.

Check if the Windows Firewall is blocking either PostgreSQL or DS -- it usually doesn't, but occasionally it does.

Is this the first time you installed PostgreSQL on this system? If not, and if you customised a previous isntall's port number or cluster directory then it might be that DS and PostgreSQL have ended up out of step and unable to communicate. The PostgreSQL settings are stored in the cluster diectory, in the postgresql.conf file, while DS keeps its settings in cmscfg.json in the AppData/AplicationSupport fodler:

Windows C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms\ (AppData is hidden by default - go to Control Panel and open the Folder Options applet to set Show Hidden Files and Folders to On in the View tab)

    Mac ~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D/cms/

Open both files in a text editor and compare their settings - the port and the folder need to match. If you need to edit the path in the postgresql.conf file make sure you use / and not \ to separate folders (i.e. not as I did it above).

Edited to put the horse before the cart
