Preset Folder Cleanup

As simply as possible, by mistake I put files in the preset folder.

I deleted them, they are gone.

If I open the Preset part of the surfaces tab, there are icons there for files that do not exist.

How do I get rid of them?

Thanks you

From the "Content DB Maintenance" menu, "Remove Orphan Base Paths & Orphans" and "Remove Orphaned References" usually get them.  If they miss some, "Scan Known Directories For Files" is the most thorough.

Thank you "Fix", this is the second time you have helped me, appreciate it, I owe.

Apologies for being a bother. went to Content DB Maintenance and ran as mentioned.

Checking these boxes and running produced nothing. That section is working because I tried other features

Not to exaggerate  but by accident there are about fifty orphaned references ( with the yellow caution) mixed

in with about 5 useful ones. If they are clicked the message reads file missing

If it matters am talking about DAZ Studio 4.8

    Thanks again

Did "Scan Known Directories For Files" get rid of them?

Will run that part today, have approximately 25 huge runtimes ( over 30 gbs a piece).

When I started this apect it took 20 minutes for the progress bar to show anything.

The other two boxes checked alone, did nothing no running at all.

Will try the whole scan today.

To elaborate, within the past two days I used a product that I had not used before. Batch convertor Michael 4 to Genesis 2.

In the preceeding days I had used a similar product. Legacy UV. The batch program  had no read me.

I ran a trial of 10  and selected the DAZ Studio Preset folder as the place to hold the converted files.

When I ran them, I found that I had selected the wrong folder. I cut and pasted them into the correct folder.

The Preset folder holds unfortunately a few files I need.

Now when I go into the Surface/Preset pane, it lists all the converted files that I had moved, they have a yellow exclamation

file and when you double click you get "file missing". There are a few dozen of them,  interlaced with the good ones. They cannot be

deleted or moved. They are only visible in the Preset windon

When I run the "orphan file" commands ,get nothing ( screen a). Does not even look

The scan for files has me puzzled for its selections, with the numbers I have mentioned this scan will take about a day or

longer, if it solves the problem do not mind, can run it overnight.

Just double checking before I do this

That's right, I've seen sometimes that "Scan Known Directories" is more thorough than the orphan file commands.

Sorry, might be phrasing this wrong.

I know where the actual files are. What I am trying to do is  delete  those yellow icons in the preset folder ( about 50 of them).

If I scan for files would I not be just looking ( and finding) the actual files.

Opinion, would reinstalling the program help?

I actually deleted ( and put back) the Preset folder to no avail

Sorry, I misunderstood.  Is the problem that the icons in the preset folder point to the wrong location, or that they don't work properly, or that they don't have images, or that you want to move them elsewhere?

The yellow icons all have the name of the folders I moved elsewhere. They(orphan) exist in the Present tab of the Surfaces pane and NOWHERE ELSE.

When you click them you receive an error message, no file. They are truly orphaned files. There is no faciltiy for deleting.

Have done numerous searches, have checked registry

In the preset tab there are about 10 that I use. There are over 50 bad icons I have to scroll through to find the ones I want.

    Total pain in the ass

    Another thread explains it

The batch converter creates .duf format files, make sure it is saving to a DS native format folder not a Poser format folder.

See attached screen print, there are over 50 of these icons  located in the Preset folder.

I am trying to delete the yellow icons referencing dead files.

    I have the files elsewhere.

I can do nothing with these icons

Can you go to Content Library > Categories, locate that folder, select all right-click and choose "Remove Orphaned References"?

    Does absolutely nothing.....

Took a chance on a command I knew nothing about.

    But "Reset Database" worked.....I hope..

    Thank you again, fingers crossed
