Great news! This is an instant buy for me, keep up the great work!

  • Make sure you put the medal ribbons in the proper order, or any (no such thing as ex-) Marines who share this hobby that we all love will be nagging you left and right about any inaccuracies in your uniform. The Order of Wear for medal ribbons can be found at http://www.americanwarlibrary.com/display/usmc.htm.

Can't speak for the American forces since I served in the Canadian forces, but if the material their dress uniforms are made of you're going to need a stiffer fabric for the pants (can't quite see the way the jacket folds because it's too dark). Something like a gabardine. The fabric doesn't fold in on itself very much so it presents a nice clean image.

On a side note, damn you know you're getting old when you see the style of uniform you used to serve in sold in an antique store as "Antique Canadian Military Uniform".

Wha..!? When did... I'm not an antique!

I agree I only retired from the CDN Military in 2009 but the uniforms I grew up in are now all called antique or the old Uniform. Went threw 3 versions of dress uniforms being in the Army. Had the olde plain green combats, then the Canadian Pattern (CADPAT) and now they are changing the shirts and pants again although keeping the sam pattern of camo.

When you get it done, if you are interested in making a Carrara set of textures just come to the Carrara forum and Ask there are lots of people who can make it for you as we are always looking for mor Carrara content.

Mainly it is just adjusting your textures to Carrara's Shader system.

Update:  Here are some test render of the uniform in Blender from three different angles.  Globe anchors and buttons are now meshes.  The marksman badge is also a mesh.  Belt has been added (Still a WIP)

    Erm...

... The thighs are STILL too tight, and the crease up the front and back both need to be sharper, AND go all the way up the leg. If I showed up with the trousers looking like that, I'd have three superior NCO's and at least one officer on my case before I could blink.

And someone else already mentioned the blood stripe issue for a PFC (needs to be corporal or higher), so yeah...

    That's all?

In college, having a working iron got me more than one free beer...the day(s) before training weekends.

You should of heard the drill screaming at me the time I came barreling out out of the barracks like the Ketstone cops trying to put on my clothes running and still get to formation on time. You ever really, right before your eyes, see somebody's eyes bug, turn bloodshot, and veins grow on there face as they come flying at you full speed screaming and stopping their nose just short of yours? LOL.

It is true you see much less of military in their dress uniforms that aren't officers. I used to see the sailor, marine, army, and air force dress uniforms all the time but by the time I got out it was allowed to were these BDUs, even in public, which always embarrased me because it felt like wearing pajamas. I remember the 1st time I saw somebody wearing BDUs on a commercial flight, I about choked on my peanuts, a battle uniform on a commercial flight?! Unheard of!

I really don't like those BDUs they look tatty and and to keep the bosses from throwing hissy fits we get them starched like cardboard and they ruin very fast. Even the officers wear them too often and we look like rag bags wearing them. Before you get offended, it is the intent of those BDU uniforms that we look like a pile of leaves somone's just raked up. LOL.

Dress blue mal3imagery is looking very good though.

Arki did some dog tags but I just checked and they are for M4 and V4.  I wonder if they can be converted.

    Great looking uniform.

Nice shoes, but don't forget the Kiwi black shoe polish, cigarette lighter, hankerchief, and rubbing alcohol.

Since no body is going to make manly uniforms, I might as well make it :D

    Looking good so far!

Thank you, sir.  You will be rewarded!

Will it be a little looser or have a morph to loosen the jacket and pants? :) It looks fantastic, really does, but still looks way too tight to me.

It's such a beautiful set! But...what morphs are included? Willl 3Delight be supported or is it Iray Only?

  • Is there an approximate release timeline and will there be the entire E1 to E9 ensignias?

  • nelsonsmithnelsonsmith Posts: 1,336

I think we have a winner here!

Btw  that looked like a Blender screenshot.  Are you modeling this in Blender?

Not sure for morphs yet.  I don't have 3Delight so I dunno, might be Iray only, but I'll think about it.  (I am not good with both softwares.)

I might do all ensignias.  And as for the timeline / release, whenever it's ready.  I want it to be a nice product for you guys to use.

Yes I modeled everything here in Blender (shoes, eagle anchor, buttons, hat) besides the blouse and pants, which were done in MD.

Looking good. Not that I have any use for contempary US Marine uniforms but ... . .  I have endless uses for that style of tunic, so a couple of questions:

Can the buttons and badges be cut off (geo edit tool) and not leave a hole in the tunic mesh?

Will the cuff flaps and braiding be (a) separate material zone(s)?
