iRay Render got stuck

Hi,

yesterday I rendered just a character portrait. A simple setup with 2 planes (one of it mirroring), 2 spotlights and render "Scene only".
Normally those renders need about 1 hour (CPU-only).

But this time it took longer. After 1.5 hours I noticed that the "converged" value didn't change anymore and was stuck at 87.5%. My render-end-criterium was set to 98%.
Now I started do document the (non-)progress. --> http://andysanderson.deviantart.com/art/slim-Teen-EL-607039603

I finally canceled the render after 3.5 hours without any further progress.

Intermediate checks on the system showed all cores running on 100% and not that hight memory coverage. So no reason for any system problem.
But what was going on ??

Hm. Very odd. There is something strange about that setup. The mirror image doesn't match what you see in the foreground (light, shadow, ground,...). How is this set up and what materials are used? It just doesn't look right and that might be correlated with your problem?

    No no,

that's absolutely correct. How much you see of the mirrored depends on the camera angle.

The back plane has roughness = 0 and the ground roughness = 0.7

And as I said: Up to now, other renders using that set ran without any problem.

Sorry, but I do not see how this can be correct. It is not how much you see of the mirror, it what is shown that seems odd to me. In the foreground you the the figure standing on a pitch black surface, in the mirror it stands on a brightly lit gray surface and you can see the shadow? Where does the irror imgae come from? That just does not seem right to me? Unless I misunderstand your setup somehow?

What version of DS is this - Help>About Daz Studio...? I saw the hanging in much earlier versions, but not the latest versions.

    Hi Richard,

due to some incompatibilities I still have to use 4.8
In which (sub-)release was that problem solved?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 102,436

I'm not sure, it may not have been fixed until 4.9 (or I may be thinking of the crash with certain models). What are the compatibility issues restricting you to 4.8?

    :) Richard,

    well known:

PostgrSQL refuses to work with the firewall, which is the most used and most popular in Europe.
If I could continue using Valentina with 4.9, I at once would load it.
(And I'm not the only one over here)

If you mean ZoneAlarm then there were reports that an update that fixed its compatibility issue with PostgreSQL had been released, or at least was available from their support system.
