I believe the OP is wondering if there is a way to save an archival file that can opened anytime in the future and have everything needed to reload and render the scene. The short answer is no. The long answer is to create a project library folder with everything needed in it and zip it up once done.
D|S has always been designed to do things the other way round — large files like textures and object mesh data are saved only once in the content folder, the actual scene file contains nothing but pointers to those files and parameter settings and changes to the default figures included in the scene. It prevents the scene files growing to truly enormous proportions; other 3D file formats that toss everything into one file can (too) easily end up with ridiculous file sizes.
Plus, due to the simple fact that it is just pointers to installed content, it is extremely easy to share said scene.
Content Gatherer is what you are looking for, I believe. I used it to transfer scenes and all associated data from one computer to another, before I reloaded all my content on the other computer. It worked very well. I was using DS 4.8 at the time. I haven't tried it with DS 4.9 or Daz Connect assets.
Thanks for that. Looks like that should do the trick. I'll have to wait on that tho cause I just blew my budget on Octane
For those who are more experienced with this software than I am, If I want to 'gather' not only my daz scene but also the after-render, layered photoshop files recording all of my postwork steps and instructions, since I am zipping everything up into a 'back-up' file for the project, can I add psd files or jpegs or png or pdf files to the 'gather'? Or should I do a secondary zip after the gather, and zipping the entire file with the zipped daz gather in the main project file?
Does my question even make sense?
Basically wondering if I can bypass an added step or not.
