Questions about DS 4.9 vs DS 4.8 and workflow

I thinking... maybe... about DS 4.9. Maybe.. but it depends whether I can turn off all the smarts, set it up the way I want and use it manually like I do with DS 4.8. I don't use Content Manager, I don't use DIM, I don't use search in DAZ Studio, I don't use metadata or smart anything. I just unzip my content into folders (on a different drive) that are organized so I can find things in both DS and Poser. If DS 4.9 needs to connect to the internet periodically. I don't mind, as long as it's just phoning home. I don't want it organizing my stuff, telling me what needs to be installed or worse, installing it, telling me parts are missing - yeah, it's probably because I moved all the poses that are really expressions into the Expressions folder, consolidated the Shaders folder with Shader Presets, etc. And yes, it still works. But the question is - will I be able to do this in DS 4.9? Turn off the smarts, I mean?

4.9 doesn't need to ever phone home unless you want to install some encrypted-only content. Even then, it should only need to phone home once on a machine.
If you don't use Smart Content and all of the metadata stuff it should work pretty much exactly like 4.8, you would just have to tell it not to login & never remind me again the first time you launch it and then you shouldn't see anything different (except bugfixes in Iray/3Delight/Rest of the app). If you don't have the Postgres CMS package installed it will whine at you every time you start the app, but if you don't use any of the metadata / smart stuff you won't lose any functionality anyways.
4.9 doesn't force you to connect or use Connect or Smart Content any more than 4.8 did. The content database software will still run but can be ignored. The major problem people had with moving from 4.8 to 4.9 was regarding custom Categories, which some people were losing. But this is a Smart Content function only, and if you have never used it you certainly won't have any custom Categories to lose.
The physical folder layout in your Content Library (i.e. your "runtimes") is not touched and will look and be exactly as it was before. In the current new version of 4.9 a Connect Library will be added to Content Library, but again, this can be ignored as it will be empty if you do not use Connect (It may be possible to hide or remove this, but I haven't tried as I do use Connect).
I'd recommend installing the current public beta and trying that before installing the general release, as that won't overwrite your 4.8 (you can have both installed). The public beta and the general release are currently exactly the same program. If you are then happy with the 4.9 beta you can install the general release at some point.
Hiro, that sounds like a good plan. In addition to completely backing up all my hard-drives. Needs doing anyway....
Rawb, I don't mind installing the Postgres database stuff as long as it's not actively slowing down my system. Anything to do away with nagging...
Thanks for all the reassurance, y'all. I'm adding upgrading to my vacation plans.
Yeah, some people go to the beach... I stay at home and play...
