How do I add divisions to a cube.

I have a cube which has as you know six sides.
But I want to make the top face with extra points on it so tht I can raise it into a ragged peak - like a pentagon-hedron... if you know what I mean.
I am very new to Hexagon only instaling it on the new pc yesterday so be gentle with me.
Thanks
Terry

Check with http://geekatplay.com/
They have free tutorials on Hexagon.
First way is when you create the cube you can define how many divisions you want. You do need to do it as soon as you create the cube and then validate it. Once you have the cube in your view screen go straight to properties scroll down and change the tessellations. Then hit validate...
or
You can click on the smoothing in the property menu
this will also smooth the cube which you may not want to see the extra divisions click on the lightning bolt under dynamic geometry.
or
under the vertex modelling tab you can use the line tools to extract new edges and can be more specific about where they are placed initially
How you proceed will depend on the finished shape you want.
Hope this helps

Easiest way:
1. Create the cube
2. Select the top face, then select and click the tesselate "crosshatch"
3. Result from step 2
4. Grab the center vertex and create your peak.
Thanks that's not something I've seen previously
