Want to upgrade to 4.9 Pro, but have some questions/reservations...

I would like to upgrade to DS 4.9 Pro (I'm currently running the last version of 4.8 Pro), but I have some questions first.  Currently, I have several projects in the pipeline and I am wondering if I can keep 4.8 while running 4.9.  I would hate to upgrade and then find out my current projects will not work correctly (this happened when I went from 4.7 to 4.8 and I spent many hours adapting projects).

Essentially, I guess I have the following questions:

1.  Can I run 4.9 Pro and 4.8 Pro on the same system (not at the same time) and if I can, how do I set up the installation?

2.  My graphics system is not connected to the internet, I can connect it for short periods, but prefer that it remain offline.  How will this effect the installation and future updates?

3.  I don't use install manager or smart content preferring to manually install items into my directories and use my own custom categories for organization.  Will I still be able to do this in 4.9 Pro?

I do understand that I will probably have to use install manager to install 4.9.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    1. If you get the Public Beta you can use that (4.9.2.70) alongside your release build 4.8 - this does require the use of DIM.

    2. DS does not require connection per se - only Connect does, and if you allow DS to connect to your account once you can then work using the Offline Installer packages from your Product Library or simply use DIM/manual installation

    3. There are under a score of Connect-only items (which are encrypted), other than those you can install content as you always have. There may of course be more Connect-only content in future which will require at least a single connection to register the machine, though you can isntall it using the Offlien packages.
