shader updates

did the latest 4.9 new beta make some changes in shaders?
I just got about 11 gigs of iray shader updates...
---
getting updates wasn't a problem before...
but sprint has eliminated unlimited data plans for broadband modems and nobody else has them
and all of a sudden 11 gigs is $25 bucks of down loading fees...  a 40 gig plan now being $110 bucks
---
or if only a couple shaders are effected in a package is there anyway to get just those...
--
I know the install manger takes the worry about of being competent but sometimes you just have to be a big person and stick a couple items in the right place
---
but certainly most updates are just tweeks to a certain issue?

A lot of Jen Greenlees shaders have updates. In theory if you isntall with Install Manager then install with Connect only the changed files will be redownloaded (this is one of the benefits of Connect, though it hasn't been working on my system).

will connect work with a custom install? of data folders
    ----
once a upon a time I arranged hundreds of pictures with an apple program .. renamed them etc... but it was all done with alias etc and when part of the system got corrupted it was all gone...  so I'm lerry of content managers etc.
    ---
so basically ...  shaders are installed in a directory .. buildings in another... and despite having many more than the ten directories that the program complains about... I've never had an issue...
    ---
this way all I need to do is direct daz to my drive and say scan it and I end up with all my categories ... or if the drive has died (which it has at times) change the drive letter on the backup drive and tell daz to look there.
    ---
requires me to direct the installs to certain folders but that it's it for sorting data.
    ---
will content manager follow the installed paths like install manager does?

Connect will place the files it isntalls in the Daz Connect directory set in Content Directory Manager - you can chaneg that between isntalls, as long as the folders you pick are also Daz studio content directories. Using the same folder as the current isntallation may be needed for the copying of local files to work correctly. Note that the Connect-installed files don't appear in the regular content directories but are in the CMS-based views (Smart Content, Products, and Categories) and in the virtual Daz Connect folder under ... Formats; you can create links in the regular content directories pointing to the Connect files by right-click in the Connect virtual folder or drag and drop from Smart Content.

  • thanks ... looks like I may have to avoid useing content for anything other than that which requires it  for a while ---
because I would have to reinstall all of it...|
part of my current directory set... which all currently appear under daz or poser
the safest thing is it's all in the way the files are on disk...
    ---
and I started it a long time ago and there are 5000 files installed to the custom directory/folder set up
