What's the purpose of the cache data?

I'm changing what I back up; is this a requirement?
Or in other words, if I don't back it up, and the info is needed later, will Daz Studio be able to recover/rebuild the information?

Cached data should never be a requirement - almost by definition a cache should be something the application can regenerate at need (though possibly with a speed penalty as it does so, since caches are often there to speed operations). Certainly DS can regenerate the DSON cache, clearing it (from Preferences) is part of the troubleshooting process if something is loading badly.
