Export model as low poly

Is it possible to export a fully textured model as a low poly model to use it in other applications?

I have experience in exporting FBX and OBJ and import them into Cinema4d but sometimes the models are too large.

For OBJ if the model has been converted to SubD set the resolution to base (in the Parameters pane, under Mesh Resolution). However, I think that FBX always uses the base resolution so if that too is over-dense for your needs you will have to reduce the resolution - via the Decimator plug-in (requires purchase to get a serial number if you have the free DS4) or using the retopology or mesh reduction tools of the destination application.

if you want it lower; load the obj into blender; joing all the parts together.

Ctrl J to join them all once slected (a to sect all)

TAB to go from object to edit mode

w to bring up a menu, and select remove doubles.

TAB to go back to object mode

on the right hand side, select the tab for modifiers (the one looking a little like a spanner/wrench)

    select the decimate modifier

    change it to un-subdivide

set iterations to 2, then apply (will only work in object mode)

this will reduce the mesh density further, however there may be a few issues with the mesh. It may or may not work for what you need.

After removing doubles the figure (G3F for example) will have about 17k faces; the decimate will reduce it to 7.6k; there are a number of tris though.

    Worked almost.

After joining the objects the textures got meshed up.

    Without joining the textures remain.

    Thanks a lot.

glad it worked; weird joining doesn't work for you; then again when I reimport into Daz, I cust apply IRAY shader and copy and paste materials, so have never worried if it worked or not.

Doing the poly reduction in C4D should maintain the textures, though I'm not at a machine to confirm that.

Is the Poly Reduction deformer available in your version of C4D?

The Polygon Reduction deformer in Cinema4d is messing up the textures loaded with obj or fbx.

See pic below without and with Polygon reduction.

The guy looks pretty sick, great trousers by the way.

    I am running R17.

The textures look ok, it looks more like some polygons are flipped.

the only way to do that and being non breakable is using 3DMax

...or Decimator, but just do not too low, take a reference for a game asset like 15K polys for a character and then unifying textures at 1024x1024.

    why the triangulation?

I'd forgotten how primitive the poly reduction in C4D is, (I have release 16) it won't work.surprise

We're left with having to get Decimator for Daz Studio or a third party product.

The Decimator plugin works perfectly for this. I send low poly figures from Daz studio to C4D with textures using this plugin.
  • The decimator plugin is too expensive.

I use blender, which is free, for this purpose.

I have it on my Mac, am using DS 4.12 and it decimates.
