Can you split mesh per material?

Hi!
I have a mesh/clothing that has 2 materials. It is a dark shirt and some gray stripes around it.
If I feed that to Decimator, he does not care about materials, he just cares about the whole mesh.
The result is horrifiying.
I would like to decimate the shirt (Material 1) and the stripes (Material 2) serperately.
Maybe I could do some groups? But even if so, I do not want to click every single polygon.
Is there a way:
a) to select material 1 and decimate it?
b) select subset of a mesh, create a new mesh and then decimate it?
Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Ales
