Is different material layers possible with Daz Studios?

Here is my problem, I am trying to make a fantasy character with silver tattoos, no looks like silver actually silver because fantasy.  So I thought that I could use the Layered Image Editor to add in the tattoo and change its materials.  And you know what I could easily add in the tattoo without issue and position it while watching it which is a huge improvement over how I use to do it.  That was great as an overlay but no silver and this was basically just black so I found that a PNG with transperency allowed me to add in color but it is just a flat color, though that really does cover most other real tattoos.

I was however not able to find another way of adding in layers.  Using the Layered Image Editor I am just merging two pictures into one.  What I would really like is to use the picture I'm using for the tattoo as a mask and have what is unmasked be a silver shader.  I have only recently switched to Daz and I'm still feeling out what this program is and isn't capable of so I would like to know if this is possible.

Your best bet would be to use geoshells. That's the way I did this product: http://www.daz3d.com/metal-magic-overlays

And you can use your own masks with this product :)

Yeah, I bought that because I wanted to see how you did it. Timmons talked about it in the forums but I'm a practicle examples person. Nice product by the way. There is no way to rate products on this site thou.
