Question to the Millennium Horse

Hi,

if you have a look to the promo-pictures of the product "Millennium Horse", there you see different breeds with different furr.

But in the following description "what is included" these different furr-diffuse maps are missing.
Normally the author has to name further products / addons used for the promo. But looking on the product page - nothing!  sad
As I tried to create an own product, I was forced to name all further addons used in the promos in detail. So why not the DAZ-Specials vendor? no

I desperately tried the different presets. Non of them did work. I only got a brown "chocoalate" horse statue.

I had to spend some manual work with applying trans-maps, bump-maps, creating an own base layer for the diffuse, etc. to create a halfways acceptable look.
Where to get the missing diffuse maps? Following the rules for trade, you have explicitly to sell what you show !!

Sorry folks, but for a product for regular $14.95 (currently in the special sale) you can't be serious; even if this is an older product.

You should have 8 different materials, according to the promo.  In you Content Library, search for "horse zebra.pz2", then right-click and categorize on each of the two duplicate "horse zebra.pz2" files to see where you currently have them categorized.  Go there and hopefully you will find the other materials there too.

(My installation is older, possibly they have been updated from .pz2 to .duf format, or also to include additional .duf files, with a newer release, not sure.)

    Hi sriesch,

you're talking about the body morphs?
I find them under the parameter tab as "Morphs" -> "Breeds". No problem, except: there aren't reasonable limits, so you can move the ruler until the zebra looks more like a rhino.

But what is it worth without the corresponding furr? Do you know a chocolate brown glossy zebra?

And what's about the other furrs? On the promo there is an additional black-white checked one and a "Schimmel" (sorry, don't know the american word for it).
They better should have a section "What is not included". There even isn't any materials preset for the black horse. But I found the texture maps

Next is the problem with the shapes and metrials presets of the Mane. How does this work? Is there a special sequence you have to select those presets?
The only preset that worked was the "TRANS Fetlocks_Short".

What about the materials presets for Bump weak/medium/strong"? I can click on what ever I want. In the surfaces tab there aren't any bump maps present, nor any diffuse maps.

So far what I found under the Products -> M category.

If I switch to the poser view I find "Pose" -> "DAZ's Mil Horse" with all possible poses. So far that good. But nothing corresponding for the "Matrials" section. Its really a drama where to find all the parameters. All totally different for every product. What's the logic behind it?

No, "horse zebra.pz2" applies the zebra texture to the horse (at least it does for me) when you double-click on it.

I'm not sure; I just randomly tried "TRANS Mane Full.pz2" and it worked, then I tried "TRANS Mane Short.pz2" and that worked.  In case you aren't seeing all the options, here's what I'm seeing:

Once you locate and apply the material, the bump weak/medium/strong will adjust the bump strength parameter.

The coats are in the bundle http://www.daz3d.com/millennium-horse-bundle

Sorry, my bad, I thought the mil horse was the only item in the bundle, but I see there are actually downloads for the bundle itself, not just the single item within the bundle.  Time to go see what other bundled items I might not have downloaded, although apparently I got this one.

I got a short Mane, but still no bump, although a bump .jpg is available in the textures folder (Runtime -> Textures -> DAZ -> Animals -> MilHorse).

I looked again at the product description (of the horse, not the bundle), and it really does list only one texture map for the body, and the list of breeds is only the morph targets (which I agree is odd, but it does say it.) If you purchased it within the last 30 days however, you could simply return it if you want.

    No,

I don't want to return. I want to get, what is shown in the promo, because it is not told, that the promo picture shows further addons. That's the legal situation.

I mean, I have no problem to create further texture maps by my own. I'm suffisticated enough.
And yes, the text only talks about a limited set of textures. I said it already. But that's what you only understand after purchasing the product.

The main question is, why is DAZ treating his customers in a bad way? Not showing the full truth?

I don't have the bump applied by default either, (although it does appear when I apply the other materials from the bundle that you don't own at the moment).  There's probably an easier way that I don't know of offhand, however if you wanted you could go into the Parameters pane, click on the icon in front of bump strength and manually browse to and load the file.  As there are multiple surfaces this would be a bit of work though.

Concerning the picture, promo pictures usually include many things that aren't in the product (for example there might be a figure with hair, clothing and weapons in a cityscape; however the product might only be selling the clothing, or the figure shape, or the figure skin material, or the weapon, or the city.  It would be much less visually interesting to have just the clothing floating loose without a figure wearing them, even if it would be less confusing.)  This is why there is a product description that lists each item that is in the product (such as the horse morphs and the single horse body texture.), so you can tell for sure what the product is.  Although you may disagree, hopefully this knowlege will help you with your future purchases.

I bought this for $4 and plan to decimate the horses for lo-rez not so close up pictures.

I just wanted some different skin colors for distant views.

I bought the Daz horse 2 for all close and high quality views.  I bought this several months back during a sale and got a pretty good price.

I don't think I would buy the millenium horse bundle, as the horse 2 is superior quality

    Yes, of cause.

I learnt it the hard way. wink
No, luckily it was the $4 version. But pitty for those who payed the full price.

And as previously told: Its not really a problem to create further furrs by my own. It only leaves an insipid taste.

Am I right, that there aren't any presets for the brown nor black furr? (in the base product)
