    @Knittigmommy - thanks for the link to the Sadie character project.  I need to dive into LAMH as I switch to Daz Studio and Blender.  I've always liked having more options than what is avaialable as prop and figure hair.

     

    There is about a week left in this month's Carrara challenge, which is dedicated to tutorial maker Cripeman,  The image is a tribute to Frazetta, one of Cripeman's inspirations.   None of my projects are intended to be photoreal.  I will miss the non-photoreal render engine, but I guess Filter Forge will fill the gap.

    Thank you, Sonja.  The middle is my favorite also.  None of these are straight Carrara renders.  I composited my results with help from Filter Forge.  Love that program.

     

    Several of the projects from earlier in the thread are nearing completion.  I will be posting some freebies for Daz Studio soon.  I still struggle with setting up the separate content area and saving in DUF format for Studio.  The separate content folder is necessary to share, or at least that is what I have been told.  I might be misunderstanding that.  In any case, one freebie is a little red wagon with some posable mechanical parts.  The second is the G3M war kilt in the first pic, which I will adjust for G8M now that Misty has released her G8M for carrara character.  I also have the tomato plant done and some of the villain stuff is close.  Converting shaders for Studio is a challenge for me.

    Thank you, KM.  The B&W distress started as an experiment in modeling a continuous railroad track on a curved terrain with elevation change.  Reasonably happy with the modeling results, and the damsel was a natural add-on.  I have been watching quite a few silent movies recently.  Went so far as to get a dvd collection of Buster Keaton comedies.  For me, silent films of every genre offer great lessons in visual storytelling, in addtion to being quite fun and entertaining.  Very sad that so many of those old films have been lost or destroyed.

    Have a few more props to convert to Studio freebies.  I think the telephone, revolver, and box of bullets might be of interest if I convert them to Studio and rig them to move a few parts.

    EDIT: The image is a WIP for this month's Carrara Challenge, which has a pinup theme.

    Richard H added the following to the publishing post in anoher thread (Hex forum)

    1) I recommend creating a new, empty content directory. Create a Runtiem/Textures folder in that and put your texture fiels in that, in your desired sub-folder, before applying them to the imported OBJ fiel in Daz Studio. Save the imported OBJ as File>save As>Support Assets>Figuer prop Asset, and use the drop-down at the top of the dialogue to select your new content directory and save the preset in a subfolder of that directory (e.g. Props/Sports/My set or /People/Genesis whichever/Accessories/Sports/My Whatever). Save your materials/poses to sub-folders of the prop's folder (e.g. Props/Sports/My set/Materials). Add a readme to the root of the content directory, or create a Readmes folder). Now you can just zip everything in that folder up and you will get all and only the fiels your item needs.

    2) I guess the above also answers the second question, as best I can.

    3) this is a highly contentious issue - soem people think that PA name foldrs are a good way to keep stylistically similar things together, soem people think they are an exercise in vanity and an abomination unto the user. Do whichever suits you and accept that some people will hate it (personally I like PA folders for characters and hair, where individual styles vary enormously, but prefer grouping by context for things like props so I have a foot in both camps - and don't hate either).

    DForce Test

    My first Studio DForce render is a revision of my first Daz Studio render in this thread.  I applied a DForce modifier to my gorilla shirt, applied a pose, and gave it a shot.  I had to do a push modifier.

    He doesn't particular look happy to be wearing a shirt but it turned out good.

    I bet a heavy sweater is all wrong for the jungle!  I am very excited about DForce and can't wait to experiment some more.  Of course, I've got about two dozen half-finished projects.  I'm still trying to figure out how best to convey the werewolf hunter pinup concept.  I have a full moon prop that I could have shining through a window, but I don't want to clutter too much of the background.  Thanks for the comment.

    I am leaving a quick shot of some of the custom Rankin/Bass claymation and toon style custom figures I have made.  To my list of unfinished projects, I can now add making full body morphs for genesis 8 for renders in the old claymation style.  I am very slowly getting used to the Studio way of doing things, but I am making progress.  Some of these are designed for a toon render engine, others for a draped VWD cloth, and still others for a brush-style render engine, so they don't all appear correctly in a single collage.

    Here is my final WIP for the Carrara monthly challenge, which has a Halloween pinup theme this time.  The original is a few posts above.  After a lot of great suggestions, this is what I came up with. Her name is Dr. Vanna Helsing.  She is a monster hunter.  If anyone has a better cheezy rhyme, I'd love to hear it.

    There are days where I am almost frozen I have so many different things I want to do/learn/make, I don't even know where to start!

    Thanks for the comments.  I enjoy modeling objects and figures very much.  My preferences tend toward toon/claymation.  I really need to dive into the surfaces, materials, and shaders tutorials for Daz Studio.

    Big fail for a DForce project.  I think it may have been because I have an extreme shape change that includes reducing height signifcantly and also increasing girth. Either the shape change or something more traditional exploded the G8M peasant oufit. 

     

    As part of this project, I want to reduce the number of fingers and toes from 4 to 3 (excluding thumbs).  Mickey Mouse and his buddies generally have 3 fingers.  In another thread, someone suggested using a geograft.  If anyone knows of a good tutorial for creating a custom geograft, I'd be grateful.  In this case, I want to hide geometry and add a patch to plug the hole, not attach a new tusk or anything (although I'd like that too).

    Working on a Daz Studio version of my freebie porg fanart model.  I have a rigged Carrara version up at sharecg.  I am still trying to learn Studio rigging, but I think I can have a rudimentary version for Studio available Daz soon.

    I had to make a couple of compromises to convert to Studio because I am not as comfortable there.  For example, I had to make the Studio version higher res because my low poly Carrara version would have had improper parent-child relationships in Studio (I think).  This conversion has ruined the current morphs, such as for opening the mouth and blinking the eyes.  It also exposed some poor mesh flow around the shoulder and the wongs.  However, I have made some progress.  A mesh is complete and it is uvmapped.  The mesh has named polygonal groups corresponding to bodyparts (something that is unnecessary in Carrara) for import to Studio's rigging process.  

     

    My goal will be to have a freebie Studio version in time for Xmas dinner, even if it is a little rough.  Not that I recommend cooking porgs - but they do look nice and plump.

    Just finished participating in a video tutorial for creating and rigging custom figures in Studio.  Now I am motivated again to finish a couple of these projects.  The models are done, although I may do a couple of minor edits in light of what I learned during the tutorial.

    Just revisited my freebie post.  There does seem to be some demand for converting the cute bird to Studio.  Not sure why I wasn't notified of the replies.  Will make that one a priority instead of the cyclopstritch or red wagon.  The major issue is the fur, which won't convert easily. I will just make it bald for Studio.

    Was that the Digital Arts Live one with Sickleyield? I was signed up for it but something crazy was going on with my connection and the audio was so distorted I couldn't watch live (I've attended a few of theirs and they are generally really good - first time I've ever had a technical problem). I downloaded the videos but haven't watched them yet.

    Yes, same one.  I had trouble with the audio once during the lesson, but it got solved by leaving the webinar and signing back in.  I've only attended 2 other DAL webinars, and one of those had audio trouble as well.  I think I might be a curse upon them.  wink  I thought this one with SY was very good for what I wanted to know.  I had heard almost everything seprately but never all put together in a single workflow like that.  Made a lot of sense.  Now I just need to find a dependable uvmapper.

    EDIT:  I give the Digital Art Live webinars extremely high marks.  Very helpful to me.  I don't think the audio trouble we are discussing is common.
