Yeah, from my testing, it looks like 1 million is about the minimum you want with full body coverage, if you want it to look like a solid mass of fur, and possibly more if you can swing it.

I've also found that if you want to move and pose a figure somewhere else, you're better off saving the project, deleting the fur, doing the posing, and then re-applying the new preset. (Otherwise it tends to crash hard)

That sounds odd as from our testing, on latest version moving or posing the models with fur attached should be safe. In case you have time, if you experience a crash after doing one of the operations it'd be great to get the LAMH log in order to understand what's the issue.

I'll try to get a log.

On a more upbeat note... having fun making grass (applying a texture to the color can make a nicely varied field of grass)

Also had fun putting fur on an Anubis... ite...ian?

Though I got lazy with the face and brushed rather than used scissors...
ended up kind of looking like a Yorkshire terrier. Heh.

For the curious, here's my experiment with grass:
    http://tinyurl.com/oknhmnl

Very happy with it. Easy to do, just took a lot of tweaking size and such to get results I liked. The base object was a pretty simple 'sandy pit' piece from I think one of the recent DAZ freebies.

That looks quite realistic Timmins! Nice work!

    Anubite (or whatever):

It needs work. To be really happy with it, I'll need to shave down around the hands and face, and I think a lighter fur color would probably work better (Anubis is a black jackal, but you want a lighter color so highlights and shadows actually SHOW)

I think you may have linked the grass to your last link, I'm not seeing Anubis.

    Woops.

Well, here's a link to my much improved Anubis:

I'm not sure furred fire-breathing dragons make SENSE, but here's my experiment:

Is there any way to make the exported LAMH fur look better in Vue? I've played around with atmospheres and any number of settings, but all I end up with is fur that looks grainy/noisy. Like this:

Hello, I'd try to increase both the hair count, and double the hair width. In Vue, try to increase the anti-aliasing in the render options as it seems to, by the look of the image you posted, to be probably too low. That should hopefully help.

[Edit] By 'increasing the hair count' I mean exporting at least 400-500,000 hairs. That will generate a quite large .OBJ file, which however Vue, on a 64bit system, can manage very well.

Very striking and great looking grass you got there.

Already started rendering experiments before the edit, so I'd bumped the hair count up to 800,000, and hair thickness to 1000 (root) 280 (tip). But using the fibrehair option with default compression, the .obj file came to 1.11GB, which was fine. Anyway, here's the result. The render settings had to be increased to an insane setting that I certainly wouldn't use for a final render as I render large (4000 pixels).

Is there a way to 'scale' hairs?

For example, the cat preset is great, except default cat (and cat fur) size is way too large for scenes with people. But if I reduce the size of the cat model, the hairs end up way too long.

But if I change the hair length in the editor, it cuts them shorter, ruining the curve.

Is there a way to just scale down each hair?

Hello, isn't the length slider doing that correctly?

Hmm. Maybe it is, I'm sorry.
Thrown off by how hair 'lays' different when it scales. Heh.

Is there any option, down the road, of some LAMH modification to let Iray handle it without converting to obj? I'm doing ok with small stuff (it'll still be handy for facial hair, I think), but any thick coat is beyond my system. Heh.

    Workflow tip:
Save the hair as a preset, only convert to object when you are ready to render and don't try to save the file with LAMH objects embedded.

Yes indeed, we are working on an implementation of the IRay render that would be automatic. Difficult to say when it will be ready to deliver, as work progresses quite slowly lately.

So I just got LAMH at 50% off, and I'm trying to make a very simple buzz cut...But now I'm stumped by the creation of density maps. How do I activate a brush so that I can change the default density? I've been holding down shift and LMB while dragging the round pointer over the hair area, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I think I'm missing something really basic. Suggestions?

Thank you for the information on density maps. I have no trouble understanding the concepts behind them. Rather I don't know how to paint a density map.

I've created some hair on the head material zone. I have made it visible in the preview mode. I have clicked the 3D Paint button and selected Density for...Head.

Now what? Do I choose a brush? Do I choose an eraser? What buttons do I click to make the brush work?

Ok, say you have Genesis loaded in the LAMH editor; you click the the 3D paint button, select the surface you want to paint (for example the SkinTorso), and just use the mouse to paint over it. If you keep pressed, you erase.

Does LAMH require auto-follow to be on to follow morphs and expressions?

I gave up on trying to get Unshaven to work on a G2 figure, and am wondering whether LAMH would be more useful.

I just bought LAMH and had a quick question. I had a crash that can be duplicated and most likely I figured out why...but is it something that can be prevented with an error handler in a future update? If I open DAZ 4.7 and add a figure, then click on create a new LAMH object, and decide I need to learn how to work it so I close the LAMH window. Then I exit the DAZ 4.7 app, an error message pops up that DAZ 4.7 has encountered a problem. I save the error message and when I click on the link to send the zipped file, my browser (Firefox) says it is an untrusted site. Anywhere else I can send or attach the error message zip file? I found if I add a preset to the LAMH and then exit out of it and then DAZ studio, no error occurs.
    Thanks,
    ts

Is there an end to end tutorial somewhere?

I've owned this product for a long time, but just can't really seem to get the hang of it. Styling in particular... there are just so many options, so many controls.

Hello, please see if this video tutorial channel can be of any help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc56g6BEO2k&list=PL_JdHHW5yFwbqeq6aJzKtfEdbpt9k4HY6

Alessandro, I found the videos to be informative but not particularly helpful to me (I stress, the 'to me" part).

I found the videos to be more in the line of demonstrations, rather than and actual end to end tutorial that starts from nothing and finishes with a final render.

I need more coaching on how to control the brush and the scissors, when to use the brush and the scissors... when to have more than one shave group, etc.

Let me see if in the next days I can make a tutorial that covers all the process of furring a model. There is one with a mammoth, but it was done with the LAMH WIP version (1.0 alpha), and controls have changed pretty much since then.
