I downloaded and checked the files for Room Creator 2 and Exterior. No stairs or balconies there either. How did other owners get theirs? I'm just not seeing it.

To get the stairs free, if you have the old expansions et, you simply need to add it to your cart and it will - or should - have the price discounted to zero. You may need to go to the full cart view to see that. If it isn't happening, please open a support ticket giving - if at all possible -the order number for your original purchase (which should be next to the Room Creator expansion 2 in your Itemised Order History).

Thank you. That did it and I was able to get the stairs at no cost. I don't know why nobody else mentioned it. Previous posts showed all we had to do was reset old downloads. That isn't true.

Thank you, Maclean. As usual a great product. It's nice of you to continue giving away free products to users of RC2.

I really don't get it. This is the second or third purchase I made on DAZ and it just doesn't work nor can I find a basic how-to files. This one,
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/azproduct/5802#user_comments, says "step 1: Open the main room figure and frame it (CTRL-F)"

Okay???? So I double click on the default rooms found in Content Library but then get an error message saying "This action requires an item within the scene to be selected." There are no items on the scene to select because I'm just trying to create rooms.

Someone please help me because I'm getting tired of buying stuff from DAZ that doesn't work they way it should.

Glad you got it sorted out. The Room Creator updates are slightly unusual. DAZ has to issue a coupon so users get them free, so I think that's why you have to buy it, then get it free.

    Hi yahzown,

Don't panic. I'll help you though it.

First of all, did you find the help file and tutorial included with the product? They'll be in Runtime\ReadMe’s\RoomCreator2Help. It's easier than doing it online.

I believe the file you're clicking (is it 01_00 default?) is a pose file. Here's how to proceed.

    1. Go to the Poser folder Figures> Maclean> Room Creator> Room Creator 2 and double-click '01 room'. That loads the room.

The explanation is simple. All the models are now in the Poser directories, and the Daz Studio folders only contain presets. You were double-clicking a pose preset, which is why it gave you an error message.

Try that and then follow the other steps. Just keep in mind that loading any figures or props should be done from the Poser folders. If you have any more problems, let me know.

Thanks Maclean. The help file wasn't in the Read Me's subfolder. I'm using DAZ. Do I need Poser for this to work? I downloaded and installed the DAZ / PC version.

Should work in both Poser and DS, but you do need the Poser installer - the DS installer is just the material settings.

Sorry. I was cut off the internet for a day due to Telecom's stupidity.

No, you don't need to have Poser installed. As Richard said, you just need the Poser installer.

Thank you everyone. Guess I was thrown off by the word "Poser"
    All's well now.

I'm going through the user guide, and I'm not understanding certain things like how to apply different materials to different parts of the floor. I see how to select different tiles, but how would I have a different look for the floor in each room of the house?

If you have the alternate floor selected, you should see that it has 49 materials. These correspond to the 7x7 grid of the floor and each one can be textured. (If you switch to Wire Texture Shaded view in DS, you'll see the squares of the grid). You need to select the materials for each room, then apply either the presets or textures. Here are the steps.

    1. Load the room. Select the floor body part and in the parameters change it to 'floor 2'.
    2. Look in Surfaces and you'll see the materials. You can select them with the Material Selection Tool. CTRL+click to select multiple materials.
3, Apply a preset or texture.

Alternate floor? I only have one floor that I can see. I'm not quite following you. And I don't see the 49 materials.

    See pic.

The parameters pane has the option for the alternate floor, and once it's selected, the Surface pane will show the new materials.

    Glad you got it fixed.

Yes, the Toolbar is something I'm particularly fond of, not least because it's cost me a fair bit of trouble and money. I had the idea, but know nothing about scripting so I paid someone to do the DS script (and someone else to do the Poser one too). Then he vanished completely from the community, (and has never been seen since), and when I tried to update it, I hit a bug in DS and it had to be re-written completely (paid for again by me). It's given me nothing but trouble over the years, but I love it because I use it for practically everything in DS.

The red-headed step-child is always the most loved. LOL.

I can't figure out how to make certain floor sections invisible. I don't understand the instructions. It mentions an alternative geometry floor, and I'm not sure what that is.

It's exactly the same as before. Floor 2 is the alternate geometry floor and when you select it, you can make any of the 49 materials invisible (ie. transparent). Just select a material and drag the Opacity slider to 0%.

Here's an image. This is the main room with all the walls switched off.

I selected floor 2 in the Parameters pane, selected all 49 floor materials and applied the '03_03 tiles 1' shader. Then I set the 'floor' material to 0% Opacity , selected some of the 49 floor materials at random and set their Opacity to 0%.

I purchased both of these products previously. How do I get the free updates?

You should need simply to reset them from your itemised order history.

Thanks, Richard. I first reset, but the files appear to be the same. Then I bought the updates from the store. I'll recheck and get back to Joanie on it tomorrow.

    Hi there maclean

I own the RC 2 since Jan 16, so I think I have the latest version.

I found a little difference when using it in Studio 3 and Studio 4.5.
No real biggie, but it's kind of annoying...

I render in Octane, so I export my scenes in parts as .obj

Exporting from Studio 3 the alternative floor works as expected.
Exporting from Studio 4.5 the alternative floor doesn't work at all.

The .obj from Studio 3 has the 49 floor materials plus the underlying bottom or frame or whaterever.
The .obj from Studio 4.5 has floor tile 1 and 2 plus the grid as if the original floor would have been expoerted (but they are not visible), the underlying floor material (the bottom / frame again) plus an unnamed material for the visible floor!
Funny thing is, I see the alternative materials in Studio 4.5...

Maybe Studio 4.5 exports this model differently? Or am I doing something wrong?

A fix would be cool, since using two versions of the same room is a bit impractical... ;-)

    Regards, Mike

That's pretty odd, but it doesn't surprise me. DS keeps changing from one version to the next and it's difficult to keep up with all the small glitches.

I checked this myself by exprting it, and you're quite right. It doesn't work. But to be honest, there's nothing I can do to fix this. It's clearly a bug in DS and should be reported to the bug tracker.

Sorry about that. And thanks for buying Room Creator.

Does Room Creator 2 work with DAZ Studio 4.7 (64 bit)?

I tried the return policy once, but I was so painful that I simply kept the product in the end.
So I would really like to ask this in advance and not just try it out and then perhaps returning the product.

    Thank you.

I don't have 4.7 installed, but it works fine in 4.6. A few minutes ago, I opened 4,8 (the new Iray beta version), installed the Toolbar and loaded up several figures. I tried a bunch of poses and material presets and couldn't find any issues at all.

So as far as I can see, there are no problems whatsoever. In fact, it's difficult to imagine why it wouldn't work. Nothing dramatic has changed in Daz Studio in terms of loading figures and applying presets.

    Hope this helps.

I pretty much have all the room creator peices and they work fairly well.  I would like to suggestion another expasion to the stairs and balconies to make them more modular.  For starters having seprate railings that work like the walls do would open up alot of possibilities in creating open stair wells.  Appart from that more generic stair case segment options with matching rails.  Ideas I have inculde 1x1 half flight segments and (maybe) 1x1 90° Spiral segements.  Also walls that can be used to enclose the area under the stairs.  I understand that there is only so much that can be done,  but is seems that most of the peices need already exist in some of the current models.

This product definatly does what it says it will do,  allow users to create a number of different styled rooms.  I just noticed a few (hopefully simple) things that could make this product even better.  Thank you for making an awesome product.

PS I would say for ecconmics sake a 4x4, 2x2, and 1x1 floor segment would be nice as well, there have been a few cases where I needed to load a floor just to hide all but a few segements.

I've got all the Room Creator sets too and use them fairly often. I wouldn't mind a small floor piece either, but what I'd really like is something featuring curtains and blinds. Standard curtains, tab top curtains, swags and tails, half-length cafe curtains, vertical blinds, horizontal blinds, roller blinds etc. Room Creator is a great product, but it can be a lot of messing about finding something that makes the bare windows look a bit less stark. Something to think about if you ever get more than two spare minutes to string together :)
