Inspiration is a big thing...last year i bought dozens of books with masters..Joe jusko, Alex Ross, Greg Horn etc...im getting motivated by artists i read in the expose series...what made a difference in my art is learning to overpaint my 3ds. I got very lucky to have the nicest person and one of the greatest artists i have meet, Nick Deligaris...living near by.....the last 2 years im having painting lessons from him...you should definetely check out his work...its not just an awesome 2d artist..his 3d knowledge is beyond logic...he hasnt post a lot of 3d, but i have seen things...amazing!

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I have seen some of the artwork from these guys. They are good. Does Nick Deligaris have a site that you use or is the training with him in person?

No unfortunately lessons Are talking place at his home...you can search him in Da or his personal site to see his work..just google him...

    Cool, Thanks for the information.

Did every one forget about Frank Frazetta. Will always be one of my favorites. Also Luis Royo.

I think it more than lives up to the expectations you created for yourself with the beautiful non-entries, Isikol. Really nicely done!

Some comments on things so far.

This seems to be two contests: one judged by Stonemason, and one judged by the community. Since it looks like everyone is a judge in the second contest, it seems to me we have a responsibility to look at all the entries. In reviewing all the images, matters are made more complicated by all the non-entry images. In some cases, it's hard to tell what is an entry and what isn't. And should entries not be considered if they don't conform to the rules of the contest? And how do you judge what meets the restrictions on violence, nudity, etc.? Do dead bodies, blood, gore, bodies burning or caught in explosions exceed the restrictions?

By my count there are about 160 entries so far, with two weeks to go. This is going to wind up being really enormous!

it's ashame there wasn't a second thread created for just the images with no comments allowed except the image descriptions provided by the artist... it would have made final judging so much easier. 40 pages to wade through and climbing

Excellent colour combinations and the lighting really makes this. In a way it resembles one of my entries, though the two are very different. You'll see what I mean when I post it, which will be right at the last minute at the rate things are going.

We do that for the New Users Contest as there are a number of WIP included in each months contest thread. For judging we have the entrants post thier finished work in a different thread.

I also think the "this is not an entry" posts shouldn't have been allowed just for practicality's sake. I know everyone means well, but if you want to join in on the fun, join in. If you're not going to join in, then don't complicate things for the judges by adding images that aren't entries.

On that note, why not just make a "Stonemason appreciation thread" for the non-entries/Stonemason themed renders?

Well, given that there's an on-going contest thread going on, until about March 15th it would be redundant.

After that I think it would make more sense.

But technically the contest itself is primarily themed as a 'stonemason appreciation' thread. :)

I think we had a Stonemason appreciation thread on the old forums. I don't remember if anyone has recreated here are already or not.

And you have to have your render covered in spaghetti sauce and and grated parmesean cheese.
