I managed to download and install about 830+ products.
I managed to recreate my former categories by using backups I made from .dsa and .dsx "User Product Data" files I exported from the "Product Library" Content DB Editor.
I was very happy to see that very few installed products had issues:

I noticed that all related products have been added.
My personal guess is that it is held back in order to deceide if before converting it to .zip the naming Fabricator / The Fabricator in the content library and the metadata should be adjusted to match the related shader products.

War Brotherhood for Genesis
I found the installer 12121_WarBrotherhoodGenesis_1.2_dpc.exe on my system.
I do not rember anymore if it was a limited time Bonus when purchasing War Dog for Genesis
or if I got it because I also have the M4 version.

I am very happy how the DIM helped me reinstall the whole runtime in only about three days working on it on and off.
I was very worried that I would loose up to two weeks to get everything working again.

A4 and H4 Shapes I got but your right, there is no G4 & F4 Shapes for Genesis in the DIM downloads
After weighing the pros and cons, it seems like the clean install option is best for me. Off to start now...will report back to tell how it's going.

About the different download files, I only use Daz Studio 4.5 , no Poser, under the download filters do I now only need to check Daz Studio 4.5, or do I have to also check off Studio 4 and Poser 9 and DSON Importer for Poser? Will I be missing support files?

Yes, only check DS 4.5, and you'll be good :)
You would only end up missing something if it's accidentally mistagged, and that would be a bug. I've seen them fix a couple of these already, and so it looks like this will not happen often once they get through making sure all the content available already is tagged properly.
Thank you so much for replying Storypilot :) I also have another question or 2 ...I d/l just one file genesis essentials to see where it would download to as the default path, but my default path is set in DIM as
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
but in explorer if I follow the path throught the directories it goes
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
does the extra word Public make any difference or is that how it is supposed to be in Windows7
and if I just check the DS 4.5 box it shows StudioCF files for some products also, which means I must have to install both files
example: Aiko 4 and Aiko4 StudioCF
That Public/Public Documents thing, that looks Ok, and it shouldn't matter, but I use a Mac, so I can't say definitely.
As far as the StudioCF files, yes those you install both. :)
I found many missing files that were not old ones (many of the same as ones listed above). I'll file a bug report to the tracker and add more as I discover them. I've only gone through about 900 of the 4300 or so files the DIM said I had. (There's more than that but the really old files aren't available yet.).
I suspect many of the problems found with some files vis-a-vis metadata already existed. I've posted several times about problems using Smart Content tab in Studio and sensing that a lot of stuff was missing or misplaced or mislabled. But identifying what's missing is hard especially when the installation paths make browsing your content a nightmare.
I don't know if everyone's noticed but there's a column in the 'installed' tab labeled: SMART. If it doesn't have a checkmark I presume metadata may be missing. There are a lot of blank cells in front of me as I look at it.
QUESTION:
Can you make the DIM's default Library the Studio default? Is it just a matter of positioning it at the top of the list? Can you rename it to My Library?

Well, some 258 products installed while I was sleeping. Last time I reinstalled my content (about the same amount) it took me 2 days. only 900 some to go (not including the missing items)
Sorry for sounding dense but what is a *Symbolik Link*? As I would like to move the download folder onto an external drive where I keep all my stuff backed up on :-). Thank you and take care :-).
You don't need a symbolic link to have your download folder on an external drive - just set your download folder to your preferred location.

Kharma, that's correct. Public Documents is the display nick-name of the folder, but Documents is the actual folder name. One of those silly things Windows does to try to be more friendly, like calling the regular Documents folder My Documents. We see the "friendly" name in Explorer but programs see the real name...users are confused and hijinks ensue. Thanks, Microsoft! :P
islandgurl, Tastiger is correct. To clarify, we're only needing symbolic links to move the program to another drive. Download and installation locations can be directly changed via the Download Filters button, which gives you the screen shown above.
O...I wanted to make a note regarding my older post about the symbolic links:

Yeah...I got into hacking the Registry trying to make that idea work and wound up having to go back to the start and just move the individual folders inside Programs. It probably would have eventually worked, but if I'd kept at it I'd probably still be messing around in safe mode trying to make Windows ignore the guy behind the curtain pulling levers. There are too many dependencies, permissions and ownership issues to get past. Just. Don't. Do it.

So one question I have is, can someone have a folder of empty zip files with just the manifest file in it (a stub basically) rather then the full zip files for the purpose of the CM's tracking of what current download versions are? Since some people will prefer to install manually after sorting and renaming, usually the procedure is to rezip the sorted/renamed content in a zip file that may have an entirely different name (for easy searching of the archive.) Also, I personally rezip items in 7z format as it takes aprox. 2/3 the space of the standard zip format.
I am guessing some people's whole purpose will be for version tracking only. (Not recommended as a method for most, of course.)
The followup question would be, could someone create these stubs if they had the manifest and name of a particular item so that they didn't have to download items that were already current but that the CM wasn't aware of? This could be of great use to people with bandwidth issues or other constraints on their downloads.
Does anyone know, can this manager be used to DOWNLOAD only, onto a specified location?

But telling me that I will like something, but not providing a Features list and a System Requirements list is only making me hesitant.
I learned with Microsoft not to adopt new software on the first iteration. I already have an Installation Manager that works well for what I need and I would like to see how it compares before I make a decision.
But if, say, you select a bunch of .zip files and "Extract All..." you're going to end up with all the data in a Content folder?

It would be pretty straightforward to drag and drop all of the items in the 'content folder' out of the content folder... a simple "Control+A, Control+X, backspace, Control+V.
Not in Windows over hundreds of .zip files.
If you do an extract all... it extracts them to the same content folder. Go into the content folder and do the keystrokes... takes less then 10 seconds, literally. The 'move' is an update of the pointer in the systems file index, also a matter of a couple seconds, and I am speaking literally, not figuratively.
If one is 'moving' items to a different location on the same drive, the OS doesn't actually 'move' anything, it simply updates a pointer in the index.
I mean this to be helpful, not to say anything negative about your concern btw.
With a few exctra confirms potentially, for every time to want to install and for every runtime you want to create, yes - it just seems like an odd extra little dance to put users through when the installer doesn't want them in the "Contents" folder either.
Yep. Checkbox at the bottom of the "Ready to Download" tab toggles Install After Download. You set your download location in the Download Filters screen, shown in Tastiger's screen shot on the page before this.
Cliff, your assumptions are correct. Spooky said that the reason this was done is because not all products will be installed to Content, like scripts. By starting at a higher folder level, they simplify the sorting and make it less likely that files will get lost.

If you are going to unpack a batch of files to the same location, why not just have the DIM unpack them to your chosen folder? Not that I don't dislike having the extra Content folder, but the reason for it does make sense now.
What is the purpose of the content folder?? What is wrong with just having all the folders placed nicely into the runtime like it used to do?

I have installed the DIM since yesterday evening and already downloaded and installed on the hard-working my chosen directories. Really seems to be very useful, and I am very happy to now get instead of Installer.exes Zip files. :-)
I noticed that in the download list some items appear to have failed. Is this normal and knows her well of your downloads with the DIM?
What is the Brushes with purchased or programs? Can I download them via the DIM or do I go here the normal way on the face of the DAZ account?
Assuming I have read things correctly it's because some content DAZ have has to put put not in the Runtime folder, not in the parent of the Runtime folder, but in the grandparent of the Runtime folder. I think. So the "Content" folder is a placeholder name that can/will/should be changed to the parent of the Runtime folder during installation and allow for unzipping files into it's parent folder.
Did I make that confusing enough?

I think maybe it was too confusing, as my explanation confuises even me - so here's a piccy. Here I have a "Cliff Bowman" folder with 10 runtimes in it, each named after a product.
The "Content" folder is changed to the name of the content library that I want to install to - for example, "Toon Teeth" or "Piggy Poses". These library folders contain the Runtime structures as illustrated by the Toon Teeth example.
However, by having the "Content" folder in the zip files, DAZ make it easier for them to automatically install things in the "Cliff Bowman" folder, as it's clearly seperated from anything within the "Content" folder.
What they might need to install there I'm not sure, but that's my reading of the need for the "Content" folder. They might also be able to install things from above the "Content" folder to the "Program Files" folder.
