Okay folks I'm almost done now. The Prop is done and Parents to ANY camera, Four different color presets and all 8 golden rule presets are done. All I have left is the Flip and Mirror command to do. Then I'll do a quick PDF dox file and Upload it to my ShareCG account.

LOL! Great minds and All that you know. I'll admit I never thought of this until this thread started.

And my Friend Szark if your SDK savvy I would love your help with the Updated version. YEP!! I'm already thinking about a Better version that will Auto re-size the overlays so users will not need to do it by hand.

I have seen information about the rule of thirds before, but I had not seen about using the other format types for positioning items within the scene. Can you please also add some information to your tutorial about when the different formats work best?

Zawarkal I did some info on composition for December '12's New Users contest here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/12654/#181702 that may help you.

Most of these guides work on the same principle and if you laid most of them over the top of each other the focal points would match.

I have Found some Images that Use the different Rules and Plan to add a Brief note on each one. But SZark is pretty much correct most of them work just about the same.

And FYI I just finished all the Icons, only the Dox are left to be Done. I never KNEW Icons were such a pain in the butt. They took longer than setting up everything ELSE!! I'll Post just as soon as I finish them.

Yes Szark, you are the information that I was referring to when I said that I had read some info. :) I didn't pick up on the other formats at that time. I will review though. Thanks for reminding me what the link was.

Awesome! I can not wait to try out your presets!

You mentioned that these will work with any camera. Does this mean that it will also work with both portrait and landscape orientations? (This could prove really useful for 16x9 test renders for film story boarding, animation, etc)

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. ;)

Well, yes it will work with any render size with just three settings you adjust. Scale, X Scale and Z Scale. This is also very low in Overhead and removable before Render time or can just be turned off. As an Overlay you just Turn it off to adjust your Scene, Character's and props. Here is Rule of thirds in Wide Screen. Click for full and You will see this is a True 16x9 setting.

Just select the plane, go to parameters-tab. The click Off for Shadows, and Off for Showing in Render. It should be under Display.

Much Easier than that. To work with the Golden Rule you open your Parented Camera in the Scene Tab and Select the Golden Rule, to Turn off and on you just use the Eye Icon. You Select the Golden Rule to work with any of the Presets and only open Parameters to Scale to Fit your Render size. All this is being Covered in the Documentation.

But until I get some Rest (I had Dialysis Today) I'll not be able to Finish. So I'm planning a release tomorrow now. As I sad the Icons took much longer that I thought they would.

Here is a Sneek Peek at the almost finished Promo, been Multitasking so I could finish. But I'm too tired to Finish right now.

Awesome, I miss this camera tool since the Dreamlight version does not work any longer in DS 4.5 Pro.
Looking forward to the release, then.

Jad I don't think the SDk will be needed, all we nned is a script. I took a quick look at the DL Camera Pointer and it isn't a plug-in but script based. When my render is done I will take a better look and see what I can find.

I have just checked and DL Camera Pointer also install CameraPointer.dll in DazStudio3\plugins directory.

yeah but it isn't an actuall plug-in which becomes part of the software so I am unsure now what is needed. :(

Ah my man but Script is still the SDK (Script Development Kit) I'm looking into it a bit, and a DLL is not that Hard I've writen Code in the Past the DLL just calls an none Standard Command that is in the Scripts for Faster execution but must be called from the App that is Running. Thus it sort of is a Plugin. I'll explore that if this version gets enough hits.

UpDate: PDF in the works, will post a notice here when I finish today. Just needed a break (my eyes are burning already today).

    so what does this mean

Taken from the SDK page http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-5-sdk

•The SDK is required for building compiled plugins for DAZ Studio. It is NOT required to author DAZ Script files. For more information on DAZ Script, view the Scripting Documentation section on the Documentation Center

As you can tell this is past my comfort zone and haven't a clue about C++, Java like scripting etc etc.

Szark my man it's tough to call a Daz Function in a script if I do not know the functions name or what parameters I need to pass it from the Script. Thus the SDK and that list is VERY help full. Sure the Script can be written in Notepad but I need to know what to call. As I said I've coded before.

sweet stuff so it is a helper with some prewritten functions.

So you know what you are doing then. ;) I thought you might with your history. I am sure the folks in the Developers forums would get you started.

Okay folks, I've been kind of silent but I'm this " " close to finishing the doc file for this thing. I went so far as to Include Install instructions in the PDF for any that have never used a Zip file before. It will go live on 3/2/13. I will post here again when it does.

OK, one question, and I suspect the answer is going to be "no", but will this work in DS 4.0 Pro, or just DS 4.5 Pro? I ask because I'm not using 4.5 and don't know when I'll be doing so in the future.

At this time this is only a DS4.5 Pro version. But do not despair, now that this version is (almost) done and I have all my work saved in notes (I'm a big note taker) I have plans for a DS4.0 Pro version and a DS3/DS3A version as well. I believe this should be Free to any User and plan to make it so.

I also now know how much time to expect for the future versions to take me. After the DS4.5 Pro version goes live I will start the work on the DS4.0 Pro version.

So give me at least until 3/9/13 (next Saturday) to finish the DS4.0 Pro version and get it published. I hope this is good news to you and others.

The Golden Rules Camera Prop has gone live. You can find the main thread here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/17976/

I'm now at work on versions for DS 4.0 and DS3/3A. Please try it and let me know if you have any problems in the Main thread.
