I upgraded to Studio 4.9 and I get this message. I was able to render with IRAY before I upgraded. What's the problem?
Comments
Have you upgraded your drivers? 4.9 needs the latest drivers because of some of the new stuff it can do, so you will need to upgrade to a newer version of the card driver.
My computer is an iMac. The graphics card is an ATI radeon hd 4850. There is no update for it. The graphics chip in the brand new iMacs is called Radeon Pro Vega. What other solution is there?
What macOS X version are you running?
I'm running 10.6.8.
If I use CPU rendering can I still use iRay?
Do you get anything in the log? Help->troubleshooting->View logfile? Anything Iray releated that give a clue?
I'll have to try again and look at the log. I've never looked at the log before. I checked the DAZ Studio plugins and iRay is listed and lighted up green so it's there and it's supposedly plugged in.
I got this message popup though -
Just to exclude this from the list of possible options - in the DS Advanced Render Settings, the CPU is checked as rendering device?
Yes, you have only rendered CPU so far. The GPU you have is useless for Iray, so you haven't rendered with it before the upgrade, neither.
Yes, the only difference between CPU renders and NVidia GPU renders is speed. Final render quality should be identical, assuming the CPU render doesn't hit the default 2-hour time limit before it hits the quality limit.

Yes, CPU is checked twice in the Advanced Render settings. If the problem isn't the graphics card not being nvidia - why won't it render?
[deleted because honestly I don't have a clue about that technical stuff)
What are the specs of your machine and what does it say in the error log? Iray was updated between 4.8 and 4.9 IIRC so it might be that something of your hardware is not supported by the new version.
I started a new scene. Loaded an iRay light probe (a different light set from the one I tried before). Clicked the iRay defaults. Clicked Render. And got an error message again.
Then I added a distant light and made a 3Delight render and it worked.
The error alert is one thing, but whats in the error.log of DS is what is interesting.
He posted a shot of the error log.
Someone has solved this problem previously by uninstalling DS and reinstalling manually. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/125676/daz-iray-renderer-unable-to-render-no-renderer-available/p1
It is suggested in the thread that this may have been caused by not installing or having the incorrect installation of "default resources" as that package contains some Iray related scripts.
Thank you for this. I will unistall Studio and then manually install it and see how that works.
I try to manually download Studio 4.9 and it doesn't download. This is all so frustrating!
If you downloaded the first one with DIM the zip file will be in the DIM downloads folder if you didn't ask DIM to delete it after install. It's the same as the one you download manually.
What is the DIM downloads folder called? I can't find a folder called "DIM downloads".
The actual DAZ Studio 4.9 program is on my harddrive, and the essential content is on another harddrive. Do they both have to be installed in the same place?
Thanks!
This is the default path:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
It can be installed on another drive, just remember to change the paths in DS and DIM:
Okay, I found the Downloads folder. There are 8000 things in there. Most of the files begin with seemingly random letters and numbers. How do I know which one is the one I'm suppose to open?
The DS installer file starts with "IM00013176", should be easy to find if you sort by name, or though a search. "13176" is the product SKU which is also listed on the product pages, though DS as an exception don't have a normal product page.
Okay, I found the zip and unpacked it and got the DAZStudio4 64-bit folder. I'll attach a screen shot - there are 17 things in the folder, containing more than 2000 files. Do I have to uninstall all of it, or just some if it? And of all the files - what do I reinstall?
Thanks for all your help!
Hm, sorry, I guess I was wrong about the zip file being the same as the one you download. It's the same version yes but the one you download is an installer (.exe file). I'll suggest trying to download it again, I've just tried and it works fine for me.
If you have installed DS with DIM, you should uninstall it with DIM also. Then install the .exe manually. I imagine you should also install the Default Resources for DAZ Studio 4.9+ as there may be some updates that are necessary for the current DS version.
I'm on a Mac - so this is the Mac version of Studio - .exe files have never opened for me in Mac. So now what do I do?
use the Mac installer
