  • I was very impressed with the packaging on both figures I ordered, including this winged figure, and am looking forward to painting them up!

The pinning work on the wings and the model itself blew me away!

The whole model was perfect and smooth without sacrificing any detail. <3 whomever those hands belong to, you have my thanks for the love and care you showed to my figure!

    Day 2, Clean UP!

Clean up work can be a daunting task, but someones got to do it. We usually give this part to noobie painters and make them earn their keep.

Each model requires 30-40 hours of clean up work. We use all sorts of clean up tools from drills to small picks that help remove unneeded material from the model.

DAY 3, Attachments, Markings, and Add-ons.

In efforts of making a Daz 3D as realistic as possible on the 12-inch colletibles, we usually go out of our way to cut out and separate small attachments to the figure. This can be done in the pre-printing process, and we use Maya or Zbrush to cut it out these parts.

These can include armour, shields, belts, wings, and other small details. It creates the groves and shades needed on a model. Making it as realistic as possible before we paint it.

These attachments will require assembly before priming, and we usually use the strongest adhesion glue we can find and use just as much glue as we need to avoid swelling areas.

  • I'm so happy with how he came out. Do you use a gap filler? I couldn't even tell what pieces he'd been in!

  • Not sure I understand your question?

  • Close up on the model front and back!

  • Now I can see that you do use a gap filler. A product that you use to fill in the gaps when you glue two pieces together. Can I ask what filler you guys use in the studio? Vallejo plastic putty?

  • Hello Hanabi,

    Checked with the Studio.

We use Green stuff and Vallejo plastic putty as well!

A quick tip to add character to the scene and amplify the character is the prop in the scene.

In this case, we wanted the hero to be the scale.

Our team of modellers and painters wanted to make it as realistic as possible and decided to use a real chain for the scales.
And to add an extra touch weathering techniques from traditional modelling were used to give the metal a wear and tear feel.

Here's a close up of the scale

Your team is so staggeringly talented- and what a drop-dead gorgeous model, Hanabi!  I hope you post photos after you've painted him somewhere- I've seen your miniature painting work and it blows me away how vivid and delicate it is!  Do you ever use dental tools for very fine details, or just tiny, tiny brushes?  And to GamePrint- I'm amazed by how much care and passion is put into each piece we've seen- your team really goes above and beyond to make each print their own work of art on top of the work done by all the original artists that made the model to be printed.  That we live in a day and age where this kind of collaborative artwork can be achieved so fluidly and reach such a wide audience is amazing (and for a very affordable price, I might add)!  The care put into preparing the base prints makes me feel like it's a waste to paint them, but then every time I see a finished full-colour painted piece, you've all accented the details and added such new life to them that I can't decide which style I prefer!  Keep up the amazing work, you guys!

  • Thank you so much for your very kind words and we are also very excited to see what Hanabi will do with the model!

Yes, each one of our figures is a child to us, we wish we can keep them all! Collabrative art is now possible, and we are happy to work with as many great talents out there to bring their works to life. Thank you so much!

Could you suggest the best glue to use to reattach a small part that broke off when my figure was knocked over (the bad -- well, very bad -- part is that it broke, the only silver lining being that I hadn't painted it yet)?

    Thanks,

    Walt Sterdan

  • I suggest using 5 min epoxy.  It's very strong and less brittle than using super glue or crazy glue.  The hardest part is to hold the broken piece in place until the glue sets.  I sometimes use a small piece of blue masking tape to hold it for 5 mins and then removing it before the glue fully dries.
