Wow! Great render Stan. Lighting and composition are terrific!

    looks good, though!

Yup. Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.

Oh that is one of my favorite scene artiests, stonemason http://www.daz3d.com/the-backstreets. If I had the money I'd have all his scenes. Beautiful things to work with. I've done a fair amount of shader building, and made several effects maps. At full size; 1800x2400 you can see Mike opening the garage door. This is like many of my scenes, a WIP. I still have a couple more characters to add, a car or two, and fauna; cats, dog, lots of pigeons lol

But it is safe to say i have spent 16-18 hours just getting the lighting set good enough to suit me lol It's a combo of sun for the shadows and HDRI for the fill.

Thing is I have 50 or so of these scenes unfinished, I have the attention span of a house cat lol

I have boat loads of scenes that I've either finished and can't bear to part with because of the work I've done, or scenes that I've started and hit a creative roadblock and have meant to come back to when I have a new idea. The upshot is that I have a sh!tload of crap I haven't touched for two or three years.

Been working on this one all day. I mentioned it in Dart's Art thread:
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/17573/P30/#258818

It's still far from where I want it. I'm still working on the lighting and the textures just aren't doing it for me. They look painted, but I'm doing something that I normally don't do with my lights that I think I'm going to change, which may part of the issue with the texture maps. I may also change from portrait to landscape as I want to include more background in the image.

Yeah...I really need to get around to using those dragons one day...I'm still playing with my art gallery rooms in LightWave. I think I finally have something that I'll keep -- so I'll post a render soon (fixing up the ceiling a bit).

These are solid-colour textures just to differentiate the parts of the current art gallery. So nothing impressive yet. There are gaps in the ceiling because it is not welded to the main walls...

Hopefully this gives an idea of what is in my head. The halls are just over 6 meters wide (~20 feet). The highest point of the vaulted ceiling is just under 4.5 meters. I'll model doors at the end of each hall and then work on improving the walls -- some sort of columns/archways work.

Ultimately; I'd like to have framed art pieces on the walls and major displays in the middle of the room.

    bring on the art installations!

Building everything around the "crushed sapphire" V4 before made me realize that I should focus on the room first. Then I thought, "why just one room?"

I'll definitely get there with the art - I have some interesting (I hope they are interesting) ideas for that bit.

I did a rather long-ish blog post about the weird swirling of creativity in my head that this has caused.

I re-worked the lighting on this. Much happier with it now. I think I still want to fill in the background, so I may change to a landscape aspect from the portrait.

Evilproducer: The lighting is much more atmospheric. It's good to see how you are working through the process of tuning the image.

Something from me to illustrate Poe's The Raven

    THE RAVEN

ONCE upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
    "'T is some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door;
    Only this and nothing more."

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
    Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore?"
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore:"
    Merely this and nothing more.

The other renders are in my blog if you'd like to look, just details and stuff.

Anyone want to have a play in the hair room?

Now that the bug with the Carrara Hair Caps has finally been fixed..., I think I'll start a slow thread over at Cafe exploring some possibilities for sharable hairstyles...

What was the bug with the hair caps? Was it Carrara 8.x exclusive?

It was a weird bug ever since the hair caps were introduced in C6, continued in C7... Not sure what caused it but I *think* it had something to do with the cap's scaling (Carrara doesn't always appreciate Poser scaling...). It made the hair float several inches away from the cap so the root wasn't actually attached to anything. No one else ever mentioned it, so I assume no one ever bothered to load the hair caps.... Too bad because they were a generous gift from April Yish who has a lot of hair props here at DAZ even though she doesn't really use Carrara at all...

Anyway, now they work (as of C8.1 I think?), and I always intended to make some simple men's hairs to share which was the purpose of the caps in the first place - to give us a common foundation that we all have (part of the download bundle you get with the Carrara purchase) to build sharable hairstyles on...

Just occurred to me, I think you are still in C7 EP? Maybe load it up and try to paint on some hair... I'm pretty sure they did not work in C7 either...

lol, I thought perhaps that was what they were meant to do!
I made the caps invisible and set them inside the head slightly anyway.

Are they in the Content Browser or somewhere else? I'm sure willing to give it a try. I've got a video project I'm working on for the next several weeks, but I'll probably need something to break up the monotony.

To be honest, I think I've seen them before, but never really thought about them. I tend to modify the samples that came with Carrara's native content. Are the samples built on the hair caps you're talking about Holly? Are they meant to be redistributable?

Yes, these last 2 pics are hair built on the cap, and using the cap's shader for color...

They are their own installer, but they come with the Carrara purchase (along with M4/V4 etc). Technically they are Poser content props, but they are called "Carrara Hair Caps". You install them in a regular Poser runtime. It comes with several fit morphs and a few textures...

Their purpose was to give us all a common base to build hair on. I think the idea was to distribute the hair and not the cap itself since everyone who had bought the last 3 versions of Carrara would already have it... And Hair-only models are generally less than 100kb.

I recently pointed them out to another user on Skype.
He wished to use GKdantas/Marcelo Texiria's Janet hair from sharecg and renderosity which loads on the cap, not a figure's mesh.

my hair was grown on Genesis head but on a shading domain I created myself then found it could not be transfered to another Genesis.
I solved the issue for that render by deleting all the mesh except my domain and using it as a cap on another figure
(A5 with a lot less A5 dialled in unfortunately making her look male I have been told)
